Best line in a Song, Weekly Top 10, and Country Music News
What makes a song lyric truly unforgettable? Is it the clever wordplay, the raw emotion, or the way it perfectly captures a universal feeling? Jay Franze and Tiffany Mason dive headfirst into this question, sparking a fascinating conversation with their listeners about the lines that have stuck with them through the years.
From Garth Brooks' bittersweet reflection that "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance" to Johnny Cash's chilling confession "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die," country music has always excelled at distilling complex emotions into single, powerful lines. Listeners share their favorites while Jay boldly champions an unconventional choice from songwriter Mike Errico that demonstrates how deeply personal our connections to lyrics can be.
The episode weaves through current country music headlines, including John Michael Montgomery's retirement announcement, George Strait's upcoming Kennedy Center Honors, and Lainey Wilson's remarkable journey from living in a camper behind a recording studio to having her own exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. The hosts break down the latest Billboard country charts, with Tyler Hubbard claiming the top spot and rising stars continuing to make their mark.
Things take a relatable turn when Jay and Tiffany share their recent concert experiences – from the frustration of navigating venue accessibility issues to standing in seemingly endless merchandise lines. These stories highlight the dedication of music fans and the sometimes challenging realities of the live music experience.
Whether you're drawn to inspirational anthems or gut-punch breakup lines, this episode celebrates the power of songwriting and the special connection between artists and listeners. Welcome to The Jay Franzi Show, a behind-the-curtain look at the entertainment industry, with insights you can't pay for and stories you've never heard. Now here's your host, Jay Franzi, and Tiffany Mason.
Jay Franze:And we are coming at you live. I am Jay Franze and with me tonight the Shania to my Brian, my beautiful co-host, miss Tiffany Mason.
Tiffany Mason:Oh my gosh, you're going to liken me to Shania. I like it. I'll take it All the way to the bank.
Jay Franze:We can always dream. If you are new to the show, this is your source for the latest news, reviews and interviews. So if you would like to join in, comment or fire off any questions, please head over to jfranzycom. All right, my friend, before we get started, we need to discuss this thing. We call the question of the day the question of the day. What's the best line lyric in a song? What is the best line in a song?
Jay Franze:I am chomping at the bit Not yet, not yet, I know. Nope, we wait until a little later in the show, and if you would like to add your comments or, as Miss Tiffany says, if you would like to join our shenanigans, go ahead and please put your responses in the comments section and we'll get to those a little later in the show, as well as the news and any other thing that we think we'll discuss today.
Tiffany Mason:Well, in the news we have John Michael Montgomery. And man, do I love this guy. He sings I Swear and he sings Sold.
Tony Scott:Love the song Sold Sold to the lady in the second row. She's an eight, she's a nine, she's a ten.
Tiffany Mason:I know she's got red lips, blonde hair, blue eyes. She's an eight, she's a nine, she's a ten, I know she's got red lips, blonde hair, blue eyes, All right, okay, so he is announcing that he is going to retire after his final performance on December 12th at Lexington Rupp Arena in his home state. The farewell concert will feature his brother, his son and his son-in-law.
Jay Franze:Yeah, Not bad huh, pretty cool. Rupp Arena, not far from me. It's right next to my office, so it's not far at all. I had an opportunity to meet his son. I went to dinner or breakfast. I went to breakfast with the governor and his son was there performing.
Tiffany Mason:Yes, that's right, I said I went to breakfast with the governor.
Jay Franze:Everybody hear that I went to a fundraiser for the governor.
Tiffany Mason:He was there and his son, walker Montgomery I believe it is came on and performed Just an acoustic set, but it was very nice, very cool, and I wrote the two and two together that Walker Montgomery was John Michael Montgomery's son, so pretty cool. Okay, well, george Strait, to be honored in 2025. George Strait is the winner of over 60 number one hits, 33 platinum albums and is among the recipients of the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors. This will also be in December, hosted by President Trump, and it will celebrate his legacy contributions to music.
Jay Franze:You would think that would make him probably the most important man in country music.
Tiffany Mason:I mean the thought crossed my mind, Jay so Laini Wilson's journey from small town girl to country icon. It's being showcased in the new Hall of Fame exhibit. It is at the Country Music Hall of Fame and it traces her rise from Baskin Louisiana to her Grammy-winning success, highlighting her stage outfits, her first guitar and other personal keepsakes. The exhibit runs through June of 2026.
Jay Franze:She in between that span in the middle somewhere she lived in a camper behind the recording studio for three years.
Tiffany Mason:Just to be at the recording studio. I mean, it depends on the camper. If it's a nice camper, it's just like having a tiny home.
Jay Franze:That's commitment right there, and we talk about that drive and everything. For sure, she's at the top of the list right now.
Tiffany Mason:But it paid off. I mean, now she's in the Hall of Fame with an exhibit of her own. Didn't we just report that when we were at CMA Fest, dolly Parton just had? Oh no, taylor Swift had hers right.
Jay Franze:We discussed Lainey Wilson being there and that we would have liked to have gone, but we had to prioritize.
Tiffany Mason:Our tight schedule? We do.
Jay Franze:We have a tight schedule, because we're very important people.
Tiffany Mason:Well, molly Tuttle, so Long Little Miss Sunshine is a bluegrass pop triumph. So Tuttle's new album blends country folk and bluegrass with pop flair. It's been praised for its authenticity and emotional depth. I feel like we are hearing a lot of this Americana folk bluegrass. It seems to be trending right now.
Jay Franze:Molly was the first woman to ever win.
Tiffany Mason:I think it was guitar player of the year in bluegrass that's pretty cool it's pretty impressive it is pretty impressive you know, bluegrass, capital of the world I mean the amazing things that come out of kentucky.
Jay Franze:You know what I mean, jay amazing things that are coming into kentucky. Huh Um right Because. Whoa whoa. Watch yourself the button's right over here.
Tiffany Mason:I was going to say you came out of Boston.
Jay Franze:I came out of Boston, I came in to Kentucky.
Tiffany Mason:Amen Amen.
Jay Franze:Sing it sister.
Tiffany Mason:Well, I'm going to now talk about Mr Randy Travis. He is turning dinner into disaster relief. Following his 2013 stroke, travis attended the fundraiser for dinner at Joe T Garcia's in Fort Worth. It was hosted with the Texas Rangers Rafael, and the event raised funds for flood relief through a charity auction.
Jay Franze:Send your hate mail to Tiffany at DaveFrenzycom.
Tiffany Mason:I do not know this athlete. I'm so sorry, texas Rangers, but I do know Raphael. I do not say that so it was him. But yeah, so, stars and fans, they were raising money for flood relief.
Jay Franze:Yeah, he got in on the signing of an acoustic guitar. Then that turned into. Well, I'll tell you what we'll also do dinner, and then his wife picked a location because it's her favorite restaurant.
Tiffany Mason:Okay, joe T Garcia's. So if you want good food, mrs Travis is saying it's worth that in Fort Worth there you go. Isn't Texas also known for a different style of barbecue?
Jay Franze:Barbecue yeah, that's what they're most famous for.
Tony Scott:Between.
Jay Franze:Kentucky, tennessee, well, and the Carolinas, as well as Texas. They're all the big barbecue places. I'm sure there's more. Please don't get offended. The South is known for barbecue and they compete quite a bit about it. I do not get involved in that so I don't know the details, but I know that Tennessee, texas, carolinas, they all have a certain twist on barbecue.
Tiffany Mason:Well, I like that. In Texas there's like the sweet barbecue. I really love me some Carolina mustard. That's what I really like.
Jay Franze:I don't know, is that part of the barbecue situation here, or are we just throwing out all?
Tiffany Mason:the things it is. It's one of the sauces. It's one of the sauces, mm-hmm, yep.
Jay Franze:I'll tell you, when I moved to Nashville, barbecue is the number one food you'll find. At every event you go to, they supply barbecue. So I got so burnt out on barbecue it's ridiculous.
Tiffany Mason:But every cowboy has to take care of the livestock on their ranch and that's how they live, jay. Again send your hate mail to tiffany at jayfranzycom.
Jay Franze:That was the most authentic accent I could do. My wife, being from the South, cooks barbecue on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, we had it for dinner tonight. So I really do enjoy what she makes. I mean, she makes very good food. She doesn't make Italian food very well, but she makes barbecue very well. She makes.
Tiffany Mason:Southern food. Very well, I was just going to say for all the times, jennifer, are you hearing this For all the times? He's mean, not mean, but he makes jokes at her expense. He was giving such a great compliment and then you had to go and ruin it.
Jay Franze:Oh, she knows it. She'll be the first to tell you. I come from an Italian family and they cook sauce in a certain way, mama. You know they cook sauce in a certain way. Mama's a meatball, all of those things. Again, hate mail to TiffanyJFrancycom. So my family gave her a recipe. You know Italians don't ever stick to a recipe. You know it's always these are the guidelines, and here's a little bit of love goes into it.
Tiffany Mason:And a little.
Jay Franze:My wife, for whatever reason, cannot replicate the love portion of it, I guess. So therefore it never tastes quite the same. It's not bad.
Tiffany Mason:It's just not quite the same. I was listening to this interview on a restaurant and they were talking about meatballs and it was very clearly a very Italian family and he was saying that his mom still gets up and makes the meatballs for the restaurant. Oh yeah, no one can replicate mama's meatballs.
Jay Franze:No, you really can't. So anyways, but my wife is very good at all of the southern comfort foods, you know. Especially I love cornbread. She also makes corn casserole.
Tiffany Mason:I mean all things like that are very good. In a heartwarming twist twist, sesame Street favorites Elmo and Abby Cadabby made their grand old Opry debut donning cowboy hats, duetting with Lauren Alaina and Taylor Lynn, which I had, to refresh my memory, she is Loretta Lynn's granddaughter and she was actually on American Idol, if that name rings a bell for anybody else. So yes, sang a duet with Lauren Alaina, taylor Lynn in the celebration of the Opry's 100th anniversary. Their appearance marked a fun intergenerational bridge connecting music and beloved childhood characters. Well, the next story is Morgan Wall, and he is kind of snubbing it the grammys in the past, but stopped short of saying there's bad blood between the singer and the recording academy. Did he bring some of that on himself? And maybe there's some, you know?
Jay Franze:quote unquote national politics being played there yeah, I don't know well enough to tell you, but wouldn't surprise me he. He is known for pushing the boundaries, we'll say, and some people like that, some people don't. Some people give him a hard time for it. I'm sure in Nashville, if he's pushing that hard behind the scenes he's probably not making a lot of friends. But he's another one that started off in the rock world. I think that's part of what makes me like his music. He also he auditioned for the Voice. Do you know that?
Tiffany Mason:What no?
Jay Franze:Yeah, he was.
Tiffany Mason:He auditioned for it, but then he didn't make the show.
Jay Franze:He made it. I don't know how far he made it. He was on Usher's team, I believe.
Tiffany Mason:Oh my gosh, I'm going to go back and check that out.
Jay Franze:It'd be interesting because he was doing rock, not country.
Tiffany Mason:Right.
Jay Franze:So it'd be interesting to see how that goes Right. I'd love to see it.
Tiffany Mason:I could totally see that about him though.
Jay Franze:Yeah, that's what I'm saying, that's what I like, and that's what I like about the way country music swings these days. Is they swing with more of a yeah?
Tiffany Mason:we like country with a little rock flair to it. Yes, we do. Well, speaking of Lauren Alina from two stories ago, so Martina McBride actually is helping Lauren Alina through some of the motherhood struggles. Her daughter's not that old I can't remember, maybe just a couple of months now. I feel like we just reported a couple of months ago that she had the baby. Anyhow, maybe just two months ago. She shared that moment during taste of country nights when she was asked if any country moms have helped her through the journey. Alina welcomed her first baby girl, named benny, in june. Well, there it is, folks. See I wasn't too far off two months if you just read.
Jay Franze:Hey, if you just read the rest of the headline, I know If you just read the rest of the headline you would have been all set.
Tiffany Mason:I know what are you doing over there.
Jay Franze:Nothing, nothing, nothing at all.
Tiffany Mason:What are you doing over there? No, I thought it was fun to bring this story up because we have talked about other country artists and their children touring with them, but also that country artists are people at the end of the day, and so this was another one of those things like what a better mentor, mom to speak than martina mcbride, who has been there, done that while trying to build a career, while having a big career, you know, I think that that's pretty cool because lauren alaina is right there in the thick of it.
Jay Franze:She got her start singing Martina McBride Broken Wing there Is that the name of the song.
Tiffany Mason:So she won a karaoke contest singing that song before American Idol.
Jay Franze:Oh, snap so there you go, brings it full circle. Wow, we like to tie things together.
Tiffany Mason:Jay, you're so smart.
Jay Franze:Wicked, wicked.
Tiffany Mason:Wicked smart. Okay, what's that? Yeah, wicked smart. That's Jay Bird. Jason Aldean was a surprise guest at Miranda Lambert's Band Together Texas benefit concert on Saturday. Nope, on Sunday, august 17th, tiffany, you're fired.
Jay Franze:Goodbye, just saying August 17th Tiffany, you're fired, goodbye.
Tony Scott:Okay, trump says it must be true.
Tiffany Mason:In a lively addition to his lively rendition of his top chart topper wow, okay, wow, wow, don't act like you're not impressed. Okay, she's. She's country. The country singer invited lambert on stage to sing a unique duet version of amarillo sky great song. The song was fitting given the show's texas theme and, as it name, dropped a city in the lone star state. The moment also stirred up some 2018 vibes when the two released Drowns the Whiskey.
Jay Franze:He's another one I like a lot.
Tiffany Mason:He's got that rockish feel to him, that's the reason why, Preston and I went to go see Jason Aldean and the next weekend the world shut down for COVID.
Jay Franze:Ooh yeah maybe you should down for COVID. Ooh yeah, Maybe you should stay home from that one. We are moving on to the question of the day. Question of the day is what's the best vocal line in a song?
Tony Scott:What is?
Jay Franze:the best vocal line in a song. Miss Tiffany, do you have one you want to throw in before we go to the list?
Tiffany Mason:I really want to see if anybody I have, like I mean I have a lot, so let's see if we can narrow some of mine down.
Jay Franze:All right.
Tiffany Mason:Okay, which one of the crew members is thinking like me?
Jay Franze:If anybody would like to throw your last minute options into the chat, please feel free. We are going to start with miss emily. Miss emily says garth brooks the dance. Okay, let's see what the rest of it says dang it.
Tiffany Mason:We need these follow-up questions. We need explanations like what line was it?
Jay Franze:I'm about to read it to you oh, oh goody, you ask and you shall receive oh my I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to have missed the dance yeah, I think it's delivery on that one.
Tiffany Mason:It's such a good line, but it's also the delivery so are you saying I did not do it well enough. The dance. No, I'm saying how it sang.
Tony Scott:Okay.
Tiffany Mason:Mm-hmm.
Jay Franze:Most important man in country music, mr George Strait. Mike says again this song every single week Amarillo by Morning.
Tiffany Mason:Amarillo by Morning.
Jay Franze:It says Amarillo by Morning, morning up from san anton up from san anton.
Tiffany Mason:Maybe he likes that they don't say san antonio either way I mean it's kind of fun like a little nickname we can't argue with it. It's his favorite I'm not arguing, just trying actually.
Jay Franze:No, we can't argue because it says the question is what's the best vocal line song? We can turn this into a competition. I miss kathy oh miss kathy says george straight. I cross my heart now to be fair.
Jay Franze:Miss Kathy, you're not giving us the line of the song that you like, unless you just like the title Alright, where'd we leave off? Okay? Laura says Tim McGraw Live like you were dying. This song gets me Every time. Every time I hear it it just makes me think of that. It's like Again Sad. I don't like the death stuff. If you haven't noticed, not my favorite thing.
Tiffany Mason:I like when he says that he rode the Fu Manchu.
Jay Franze:Yeah, rode for eight seconds. Yeah, I had to look it up.
Tiffany Mason:I was like what's a Fu Manchu Nice?
Jay Franze:He says I went skydiving, I went Rocky Mountain climbing.
Tiffany Mason:It is really fun to sing along to that line.
Jay Franze:Again, I really do like the song, even you know. I know we talk about Tim McGraw not having the best vocal abilities, but he does convey a story. And that story is definitely touching.
Tiffany Mason:Oh my goodness, I think it was after last week's episode or two weeks ago. Somebody brought up don't take the girl. And then I was in the gas station washing my hands and I was like no way, it was Tim McGrath, don't take the girl. And I thought, no way this song is on.
Jay Franze:Jacobs is Eric Church Springsteen. Funny how melody sounds like a memory. I'm going to feel real bad about mine tonight. These are all so good and nice and sweet and mine's not going to be so much, oh my gosh.
Tiffany Mason:I can't wait.
Jay Franze:Oh, mr Caden is chiming in. Mr Caden is saying William Lee Golden, oh, you always say William Lee Golden. I'm not today what I used to be.
Tiffany Mason:Time has made a change in me. It's a song he picked for being on my podcast.
Jay Franze:Maybe he does like it. Then he can't make fun of it he does like it, Kaden I would never make fun of you, buddy. I consider you to be one of my best friends ever.
Tiffany Mason:Oh, I would. I'll pick on you all day long. I'll pick on Jay all day long. Jeff, you want in on this Carla. I can pick on you All day long, Jeff. You want in on this Carla.
Jay Franze:I'm sorry. What's that, Kayden? Oh, okay, I got it, Hold on.
Tiffany Mason:Tiffany, you're fired. Ask my mom how much I pick on her. It's my favorite pastime.
Jay Franze:I always tell people that I'm from Boston. If I wasn't picking on you, you'd mean I don't like you.
Tiffany Mason:Right.
Jay Franze:Sarah, Sarah, says Miranda Lambert. If I could just come in, I swear I'll leave.
Tiffany Mason:She stopped there. Why would you stop there? She wanted me to finish it. Is that what you want. She couldn't resist.
Jay Franze:Mercy me. Kevin says, brad Paisley and Alison Krauss Whiskey Lullaby. Life is short, but this time it was bigger.
Tiffany Mason:That's what she said.
Jay Franze:You struggled on it, didn't you? Again, amy, thank you for coming back a second week, but Amy says Vince Gill, and I don't know if it's Amy or not.
Tiffany Mason:Oh right, because she picked Vince Gill last time. That's what I'm saying, and I don't know if it's Amy or not. Oh right, because she picked VinSkill last time. That's what I'm saying.
Jay Franze:If this is Amy and she's picking VinSkill two weeks in a row, this is just shameless self-promotion. Is all this is?
Tiffany Mason:Okay, what did Amy Grant say?
Jay Franze:I mean Amy say If you'd like to join jfranzycom, please feel free. She says Go rest high on the mountain. That's the song she picked last week too, isn't it? You said it sounded like a hymn.
Tiffany Mason:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jay Franze:Your work on earth is done.
Tiffany Mason:Maybe it's copy-paste, oh, but she added your work on earth.
Jay Franze:Yes, again, like Caden, she likes that song. Stop making fun of these people.
Tiffany Mason:I don't make fun of anybody.
Jay Franze:All right, mark says. Johnny Cash, fall some prison blues. I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.
Tiffany Mason:Well, I shot a man in Reno.
Jay Franze:That is a line for sure. I'll give him that. Yeah, that's Mark D. Oh, oh thank you for joining us again. Mark, you still haven't told me if frank d I was gonna say francis, it's francis, but frank. You still haven't told me if francis or frank d is your dad. Please chime, chime in, let me know.
Tiffany Mason:We need details.
Jay Franze:Rockalooch says Casey Musgraves, follow your arrow.
Tiffany Mason:Kiss lots of boys or kiss lots of girls.
Jay Franze:Okay, I'd like to choose the latter, please. I'll start tonight. I think my wife is sleeping, I don't know if she's not babe, that's just a joke, you know, it's okay. Chris says randy travis forever and ever, amen. The line is as long as old men sit and talk about the weather. Now I just picture like rocking chairs outside of an old Five and Dime or outside of an old like general store.
Tiffany Mason:Old Cracker Barrel.
Jay Franze:No, cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel is pissing me off.
Tony Scott:First of, all Cracker Barrel has gone oh he's got a nerve.
Jay Franze:That is a big thing here in the South, and Cracker Barrel has gone. Oh, we stuck a nerve. That is a big thing here in the South. And Cracker Barrel has gone downhill on their service and their food lately. And now they're rebranding and they're just making it look like any other modern store and from my understanding I haven't seen one or seen any drawings or anything, but they're losing the store. The store is what made Cracker Barrel Cracker Barrel.
Tiffany Mason:What? Why would you? What made Cracker Barrel Cracker Barrel?
Jay Franze:What? Why would you go to Cracker Barrel? Next thing you know they're not going to have Rockin' Shears or any of that stuff either. I'm upset Cracker.
Tony Scott:Barrel, you want to join in, and?
Jay Franze:explain yourself. Please do jfranzycom.
Tiffany Mason:I have your back on this, Jay.
Jay Franze:Okay, thank you, I appreciate this.
Tiffany Mason:We are united front.
Jay Franze:Hannah says Hannah again. Miss Tiffany, I don't know.
Tiffany Mason:I think she's in bed.
Jay Franze:That's what you'd think. But meanwhile her phone is still in her hands. It says Dolly Parton coat of many colors, One is only poor, only if they choose to be. That sounds very nice.
Tiffany Mason:It does sound very nice. All about mindset.
Jay Franze:It's true, tom Brooks and Dunn Neon Moon. Now, if you lose your one and only, there's only room here for the lonely Good song. I like it I like that song. Jessica, I can't do it. This one's for Tiffany. I like Chris Stapleton Starting over. Sorry, I don't know if you really sound like that, jessica. It just bothers me that you start off with this one's for Tiffany. I'm here to you this one's for the girls. Chris Stapleton starting over the hard roads are the ones worth choosing.
Tiffany Mason:Amen.
Jay Franze:Daniel says Willie Nelson, on the road again, Go in places that I've never been. I like that Makes sense. If you're going to choose a line out of that song. I think that's the one to choose, daniel. Sorry for calling you Daniel. Daniel, you get a gold star for tonight. Makes sense. If you're going to choose a line out of that song, I think that's the one to choose Danielle Yep or Daniel. Sorry for calling you Daniel.
Tony Scott:Daniel.
Jay Franze:You get a gold star for tonight. Thank you, samantha. Says Trisha Yearwood she's in love with the boy. Her daddy says he ain't worth a lick. I have a question. Let's jump ahead to Brian. He ain't worth a lick. Let's jump ahead to Brian because he's following this up with Garth. Brooks Got to go from Tricia Yearwood to Garth Brooks.
Tiffany Mason:Absolutely.
Jay Franze:Garth Brooks. If tomorrow never comes, will she know how much I love her will she know how much I love her, hmm did.
Tiffany Mason:I try and every day just show her every way. She's my only one.
Jay Franze:I'm cherry picking, just so you're aware. Ethan says Jason. Aldean basket out, pick those cherries dirt road anthem hmm, yeah, I'm chilling on a dirt road, all right, oh, darius Rucker's on here. Josh says Darius Rucker, wagon wheel. Rock me like a wagon wheel. I don't think that's a very impressive line. You guys are going to be either very disappointed or upset about my choice. Sophie, sophie, sophie, sophie. Has Sophie been here before? I think?
Tony Scott:so I don't think so, but I don't want to think so, because I remember saying we've never had a Sophie.
Jay Franze:And I said I like the name Sophie Rascal Flats.
Tiffany Mason:And why'd you ask me?
Jay Franze:I'm just thinking it through out loud. Sorry, I'm the one. It through out loud. Sorry, I'm the one that's not supposed to have the memory. Sophie says Rascal Flats bless the broken road. Every long lost dream led me to where you are.
Tiffany Mason:Love it.
Jay Franze:Do you? I'm not reading that one, haley, I am sorry, she says the chicks.
Tiffany Mason:I like the chicks. Which one?
Jay Franze:Wide open spaces Haley.
Tony Scott:I'm just not a fan of the chicks anymore.
Jay Franze:But she says the chicks Wide open spaces. She needs wide open spaces Room to make her big mistakes. Sarah Evans, I like Sarah, her big mistakes. Sarah Evans, I like Sarah Evans. Trevor says Sarah Evans born to fly. How do you keep your feet on the ground when you know you were born to fly? Now that sounds like somebody would have it tattooed on their arm. If it's worth tattooing on your arm, then you've chosen a good lyric. Maya Project Music.
Tiffany Mason:Oh yes.
Jay Franze:Says Sting, there's no such thing as a winnable war. It's the lie we don't believe anymore.
Tiffany Mason:I'd have to really ponder that one.
Jay Franze:Ooh, jd Reynolds. I'll say Reynolds because she is a previous guest of the show Song. Whatever, we don't give a shit, no matter how fine you are. She does not have a singer and I don't recognize the lyric. Lynn wrote a book, okay, june. Says Dolly Parton I will always love you. Really, the whole song, june. I don't know if that qualifies, but I'm going to give it to you only because it's dolly, the most important woman in country music. Hunter says shine down going for the rock band sometimes goodbye is a second chance oh I like the message.
Jay Franze:I could see that tattooed on somebody's arm. Now the song your choice.
Tiffany Mason:Okay, okay, well, okay, I think I'm going to do. If I'm going to just choose one, I am going to do Taylor Swift, it is. You Need to Calm Down. Well, I can't find the line, but it's.
Jay Franze:Tiffany, you're fired there's only so many variations, that sign must have taken all night.
Tiffany Mason:Then she starts, then she does a really really fast part. I don't know, it goes really really fast right there. And the other one that I'm really loving right now is 20 Cigarettes by Jason Aldean. Hold on one second.
Jay Franze:I need to public service announcement To all of the Swifties out there. I would just like to let you know that we are actually Swifties here on the show. We do promote Miss Taylor Swift. So, even though Miss Tiffany right now is coming across as if she's not quite sure, we do actually promote Taylor Swift. So even though Miss Tiffany right now is coming across as if she's not quite sure, we do actually promote Taylor Swift.
Tiffany Mason:Yes, yes, yes, very much so. Okay, so I really love that song. And then I also really love this Morgan Wallen song 20 Cigarettes and it's this whole night of how they smoked these cigarettes together. And the very last line is one hell of a night, one hell of a pack.
Jay Franze:All right, Miss Tiffany, should we go with mine? Yes, I'm dying, no the question was the best lyrics in a song, right? So this is either going to go to the top or to the bottom. There's no middle ground for this.
Tiffany Mason:Okay.
Jay Franze:I'm going to quote a previous guest of ours, Mike Errico.
Tiffany Mason:Okay.
Jay Franze:And I did tell him on the show that this was one of my favorite lyrics ever, if not my favorite lyric ever in a song. Okay, the song is called Daylight.
Tiffany Mason:Okay.
Jay Franze:Now I've got the whole verse here, but I'm going to tell you the line. If you want me to read the verse, I will. It says your darkest secrets. Sit here right in front of me. I know what you smell like and if my life were a movie, you'd be buried in the credits. You'd be woman number two with your head up your ass.
Tiffany Mason:Okay, well, I like the aggressiveness, I like that they stuck it to the other person and it's a pretty complete picture within two lines. I mean I'll give it to you.
Jay Franze:I've always liked it this is the record. When I met him, this was the record he was promoting and I have never gotten over it. I mean, I love the record, I love the song.
Tiffany Mason:Some of those lines just stick with you and he is by far one of the best performers.
Jay Franze:I've the record, I love the song. Some of those lines just stick with you and he is by far one of the best performers I've ever seen. As far as one man now he has a band, but as far as one man sitting down with an acoustic guitar and playing, he does it. He plays the harmonica while he's playing the guitar.
Tony Scott:He's got the foot pedals going.
Jay Franze:He has got the foot pedals going, he's got the loop pedals going and he puts the guitar down on his lap and plays it like a piano.
Jay Franze:I mean very, very creative player but, also a creative writer, but that is my favorite. The entire portion of the song is you've got my sweater and a couple of CDs, but that's all right. Your darkest secrets lie here right in front of me. I know what you smell like, and if my life were a movie, you'd be buried in the credits. You'd be woman number two with your head up your ass. And it's too late. Yes, it's too late. Even anger does not last.
Tiffany Mason:Dang. I thought the saying was love hath no fury like a woman scorned, but I think that this is a man scorned.
Jay Franze:We are showing that it goes in both directions, All right. Well, I don't know if we can put it at the top of the list or not, but it is my choice for the top of the list.
Tiffany Mason:Okay we're all entitled. All right, moving on to the charts, miss David, Okay, well, coming in at number 10 as a debut is Jordan Davis with the song Bar None.
Jay Franze:Why is that lyric so clever?
Tiffany Mason:I think I've only heard it once and I remember thinking it was clever, but I can't remember why. Okay, fine, I mean it was clever, but I can't remember why. Okay, I mean, it's just debuting. We've got, you know, a couple of weeks a few more weeks, as he climbs the charts. We hope.
Jay Franze:Okay, sorry, go ahead.
Tiffany Mason:Yeah, sometimes they come on the charts and then they disappear, so hopefully Jordan Davis sticks, but he's a pretty big name right now. One of my favorite songs and it was actually on my list for the people to to say and it's the song country house. Now he did go from one all the way down to number nine, but I love when he says I can run my bird dogs, cut the grass with my shirt off and swim in an old pair of jeans.
Jay Franze:just it's cute little it's not gonna end up on my arm.
Tiffany Mason:No, it's not going to end up on your arm, you know what's going to end up on my arm? Tiffany, you're fired.
Jay Franze:No, no. The quote from Rocky. It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. Now, that's how winning is done. That's my favorite quote. That's going to end up on an arm someday, I feel like.
Tiffany Mason:is that a lot of words that has to be on your back, though I wouldn't put them all, I would just put the the first line. Okay, okay, okay, get people started on the line. It's not about how hard you can hit.
Jay Franze:It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward okay, okay.
Tiffany Mason:Well, I don't know about that, but number eight come on, it's a rocky quote it's a great quote. It's a great quote. It's just too many words I'm sorry.
Jay Franze:What number are we on?
Tiffany Mason:we're on your favorite. Oh, numero ocho. Okay, scotty mccurry Rockets, and we know I'm a fan. It went from 10 and it climbed to number 8. Nice.
Jay Franze:It's a great song. I do like it. I still like listening to it. I mean, we're still in summertime, still August, still summertime.
Tiffany Mason:Well, number 7 is Russell Dickerson Happened to Me and it moved from spot number 9 up to spot number 7. And I was kind of glazing over this one, but this is another one that does a 90s, uh, referral or reference. So it's, you know, becoming a big favorite of mine tell us come on, don't put me in the spot.
Jay Franze:I just know it references the 90s okay, fine, let's see, you don't have to, okay so it says they're talking back and forth.
Tiffany Mason:She said shut up, come dance with me. And now she's singing girls just wanna have fun. Maybe is that 80s girls just wanna have fun yeah, it's referencing cindy lauper from anyways. So love, that love when they. You know, you know me, you know me. That's why I like that Bottle Rockets one so much, because it has the hoodie segment in there. Jay Franzi's a big fan of Bailey Zimmerman with Backup Plan.
Jay Franze:Yes, it's one of my. It's probably my favorite song out right now. I like the message. It's another one of those Rocky quotes. I like the inspirational quotes. See, I think you're starting to see a pattern here.
Tiffany Mason:Keep me away from the sad stuff and move me into the inspirational stuff you like, like ball buster toughness, yes, yes. Like nobody cries, you don't cry about it.
Jay Franze:I don't want to cry, just put some dirt on it and move on.
Tiffany Mason:Yes, nope.
Jay Franze:My kids make me cry. I've never cried in my life and I go to watch my kids dance and I cry.
Tiffany Mason:Oh, I lost my man card years ago. We're going to go to number five. It's Luke Bryan with Country Song Came On. He went from number seven to number five. Okay, number four. This is another Jay favorite, nate Smith with Fix what you Didn't Break. It went from five to spot number four.
Jay Franze:Nice, miss Kathy, you still here with us.
Tiffany Mason:Yes, great song she got very sleepy last Wednesday, and she went to bed a little early, so she might have left us already.
Jay Franze:Miss Kathy, that disappoints me already, kathy, that disappoints me.
Tiffany Mason:Well, maybe this will cheer you up, shaboozy, with good news.
Jay Franze:Good news.
Tiffany Mason:Went from six to spot number three.
Jay Franze:You know what that is?
Tiffany Mason:That's good news.
Jay Franze:Good news, do I have one of those?
Tiffany Mason:Wait, wait yes.
Jay Franze:Oh huh, I'm fired, but don't do.
Tiffany Mason:I have one of those wait, wait, yes, on fire. I don't know where it is.
Jay Franze:I had to look, but you know well, thomas rutt has spot number two.
Tiffany Mason:He has climbed from spot number four and it's after all, the bars are closed. After all, the bars are. I think I did the last note wrong. Anyways, spot number one a song that I still don't know if I've ever heard, or I heard it and I don't care. I'm not really sure this song is really like somewhere out here for me, but it went from spot number three to spot number one, so Mr Tyler Hubbard is whooping it up this week.
Jay Franze:Wait, wait, that was number one. Yeah, there was no drum roll, there was no applause.
Tiffany Mason:It's the song I keep blowing past. It's just.
Jay Franze:So just because you're not the biggest fan he gets no drum roll. Yes.
Tiffany Mason:This is his debut in the number one slot we need to give it to him I can redo it.
Tony Scott:You're taking the air out of him.
Tiffany Mason:You are not the wind beneath his wings.
Jay Franze:I'm not bothered by it All right.
Tiffany Mason:Hey, I'm ruthless like that you you really are. We can do it again. No, it's not, and tonight I'm in the number one spot oh wait, nope, nope, I'm not gonna give it to you psych oh tyler, just a little bit, just a little bit.
Jay Franze:A little bit for you, that's awesome sorry, that's all you get all right, miss tiffany, what do you got going on this week?
Tiffany Mason:um well, I don't really have anything super amazing going on. I did have another amazing episode, though, from the link up lounge talking about collaborating it's okay, don't say it resist and actually on saturday night I told my husband hannah just happened to be out of the house and I was like let's go do something, like let's go do something fun, and so we actually went to a pool lounge.
Tiffany Mason:Jerk, you couldn't help it. No, we went to a pool hall and we had a little bit of pizza. And then we went to a pool hall and the pizza was fantastic. It was New York style pizza. Oh, I love New York style pizza. And then we went and played a little pool and then on Sunday we went to a sound bath. Have you ever gone to a sound?
Jay Franze:bath before Whoa you went to play pool. Yeah, Did he come up behind you and show you how to shoot?
Tiffany Mason:I mean he might have poked me with a stick. I'm married, it's allowed. Okay, so we play sports.
Jay Franze:I don't know if I want you calling me daddy tonight.
Tiffany Mason:No, we play these games and I am not very athletically inclined. I can participate, I'll be a good sport. You can totally cream me at the game and I will take it Okay. But but this time I kind of held my own. We we played pool. I actually did some like technique shots and made them in and I did lose four out of five games, but they were close. It wasn't like all my balls were on the table. I got some of them and we had a lot of fun. And then I went to my friend and she does sound baths. I do love a sound bath. I know I've heard of all the health benefits before, but I don't have them memorized, but I do. And she does sound baths. I do love a sound bath. I know I've heard of all the health benefits before, but I don't have them memorized. But I do love me a sound bath. So that's what I did. And then I'm gonna go catch the sunrise on friday morning and I'm gonna watch hannah cheer at her first high school football game on thursday night nice.
Jay Franze:Now that's something to be excited about.
Tiffany Mason:I'm very excited about it. Plus, I got like gear and on Friday it's going to be the whiteout game, so we all have our whiteout clothes. I got my shoes in the colors, so I'm going to look pretty good at the football game Cheering on the football team.
Jay Franze:You're going to look like one of the kids.
Tiffany Mason:Yes, I'm fine with it.
Jay Franze:Who's this mom trying to look like us? Yes, all right. Well, I got to go to Hailstorm this week.
Tiffany Mason:I know I'm so jealous.
Jay Franze:And I actually took Bella with me this time. Fun, fun. I was going to invite Bella, bella, and I did invite Bella. I said, bella, if you would like to go, because this is a Lucy thing, I was going to take Lucy. And I said, bella, if you'd like to go, I know you like rock music and I know you would like to go, by all means, the three of us can go. She's like, no, you just go with Lucy, you two go have a daddy-daughter date. So I have a daddy daughter date. So I was like I, I appreciate that, but come on, let's just all go. And then she said no. So I'm like, okay, I'm just gonna go with lucy then. But then my kids went to dance class and came home from dance class and now my wife is saying you're gonna go with bella and lucy's gonna stay home. And I, whoa what happened? The whole point was to take Lucy someplace, but apparently Lucy she's not the biggest fan of rock music, where Bella's actually a fan.
Tiffany Mason:Uh-huh.
Jay Franze:Which is okay, because she's thinking of her big sister and I thought that was very nice. So I went with Bella and we got to go sit in front of the house and we got to go, you know, check out the show and do all those fun things and take some selfies and all of that fun stuff.
Tiffany Mason:It was good, very cool.
Jay Franze:Now you want to know what frustrated me about that night.
Tiffany Mason:Jay, wait a minute. I have a question. What frustrated you about that night?
Jay Franze:Oh, good question. Thank you for asking, yeah.
Tiffany Mason:Oh, good question. Thank you for asking.
Jay Franze:Yeah, my daughter, as a lot of you may already know, has a condition called F and D and she sometimes has temporary paralysis or, you know, passes out or has these things. Now that luckily did not happen that night. It was a good night. But her foot it locked up. She couldn't move her foot. It locked up at an angle so when she walked she would be walking on the outside edge of her foot. It locked up, she couldn't move her foot. It locked up at an angle, so when she walked she would be walking on the outside edge of her foot. Could not be comfortable, I'm sure.
Tony Scott:No. So I said well why don't we?
Jay Franze:we didn't bring her wheelchair. So I said why don't we just go get the wheelchair from the venue and we'll use the wheelchair? She didn't want to do it, but we were at the merch table and down down the aisle was the first aid section and she needed air plugs. So I said, well, I'm going to go down here for a minute. So I went down there to look for air plugs. I asked first aid, logical place to go First aid. Hey, two questions for you real quick. Would you happen to have some air plugs and what would we have to do to check out one of these wheelchairs Line of them?
Jay Franze:What would we have to do to check out one of the wheelchairs. They said well, the earplugs, which they had a bucket of in front of them. You would have to go to customer service. I said okay, what about the wheelchair? They asked me what the need was all that fun stuff. I said well, and my daughter explained the situation. They said me what the need was all that fun stuff. I said well, and my daughter, you know, explained the situation.
Jay Franze:They said you'd have to go to customer service, I said what are all these wheelchairs for? Those are in case of emergency. I'm thinking to myself how many emergencies do you expect to happen? Okay, now customer service. All the way back across the venue to where we walked, in, of course, of course. So we walked back to the customer service. No joke, asked the lady we would like to talk to you about checking out a wheelchair. No, don't say it, you'll have to go to first aid.
Tiffany Mason:No, I was like you got to be kidding me.
Jay Franze:I was saying, well, that's funny, because they told us to come here. And she's like, well, we can't do that. She's, I can give you a ride and I can put you in and we can push you to your seats, but then we're gonna leave you there and go back. I'm like, well, that doesn't really make sense. I said can I push her? And they said no I'm like okay I've had it. My daughter's's like just forget it, she goes, I can walk, I'm fine.
Tiffany Mason:Yeah.
Jay Franze:Okay. And then I said, okay, well, could you possibly give us a pair of air plugs? And she was, yes, $250. I'm like okay, handed my card, she goes we only take cash. Okay, was there any place in the building?
Tiffany Mason:I had a gun range and they were like, just take them you know they're just little phone things.
Jay Franze:I mean there's nothing to them exactly. So I'm like is there any place around that I can use the card to pay for? She was no, but there's an atm yeah, go get an atm.
Tiffany Mason:That's gonna charge you five dollars they charged me 450. Yeah, but the atm back at the other end so you're saying that you got a lot of exercise in then?
Jay Franze:I told my daughter. I said just wait here I went back down, got the money, came back, paid for the air plugs and then we walked back and we she wanted to go to the merch booth and check out the merch, so bought her a t-shirt. She's very happy. If you would like to see any of the pictures of her suffering I mean, if you would like to see any of the pictures from that night they are up on the Instagram page.
Tiffany Mason:Well, I'm glad you brought up the merch table.
Jay Franze:Yes, tell me.
Tiffany Mason:I cannot believe I left this out of the story when we went to go see Megan Maroney. I cannot believe I left this out of the story. I can believe it, thanks. So we see the girls lining up for the megan maroney concert, okay, and there is, I mean white boots and blue ribbons as far as the eye can see, and we are all like we're not getting in that line, like those girls can get in the line and whatever right, just to get into the concert. Okay, so we get into the concert. We got in the merch line. We waited in the merch line for two hours, two hours nothing.
Tiffany Mason:Nothing made a request, we'd make that happen well, when hannah made her request for her birthday, it was morgan wallen or megan maroney, and megan maroney was really the front runner and then, through a course of whatever, it turned into morgan wallen and then when I saw megan maroney was going to be at the state fair, I was like, oh well, we could still go see her.
Tiffany Mason:So I knew it was one of hannah's top picks. And I'm telling you, every girl like we kept going down the venue and we're like is this the end of the line? Is this the end of the line? Then come to find out that really crazy long line actually went all the way to the front split and then went to these other, these two booths or whatever, two booths, boots or whatever Two boots. Like I feel like the artist should be able to communicate to the venue. Like hey, we need four or five merch tables, platforms, whatever I mean. I can't even tell you the amount of merchandise they must have gone through. I bought five things myself because I bought for my mom and my sister and my niece and her friend.
Jay Franze:That's like $500.
Tiffany Mason:It was absolutely crazy. No, it was crazy.
Jay Franze:Not waiting in line that long, not spending $500.
Tiffany Mason:Sorry, oh my gosh, it was so crazy.
Jay Franze:I bought my daughter the shirt. It was $45.
Tiffany Mason:Yeah.
Jay Franze:For a concert shirt. I get it these days. That's the price. Yeah, you know, I lived back in the 80s. But the $45,. I understand that's the price of a shirt these days, but the hoodie hoodie was $80.
Tiffany Mason:Oh no, the Mega Moroni hoodie was $95.
Jay Franze:Yeah, and the other band that was there, volbeat. They had a shirt that I liked. I saw some guy in there and the crowd walked by. I told my dad. I said, said, oh, I actually like that shirt. It was a button down type that I would typically wear oh yeah but it was like sharp looking and I said, well, let's walk by the booth see if they have it. I'm thinking myself, if they have this shirt it's gonna be at least 100 bucks.
Tony Scott:But they didn't have it, so my and then my daughter turns to me and she goes but dad, wouldn't you like something?
Jay Franze:She goes why don't you pick a shirt and I'll buy it for you. I was like oh now, that's nice.
Tiffany Mason:That's nice.
Jay Franze:Whose card.
Tiffany Mason:are you going to use Yours she?
Jay Franze:actually has her own. Now, I'm just throwing that out there, she has. I mean, she actually does, she has her own bank card.
Tiffany Mason:I'm proud of my little girl.
