Nashville Stars Get Canceled, Artists More People Should Know, and Country Music News

Jay Franze / Tiffany Mason Episode 167

When does a country star get "canceled," and does it even work? In this eye-opening episode, Jay and Tiffany dive into eight notorious country music controversies—from Morgan Wallen's racial slur captured on a doorbell camera to Jerry Lee Lewis marrying his 13-year-old cousin (which rock music rejected but country music... accepted?). Their candid exploration reveals the strange double standards that exist within different music communities.

Beyond cancel culture, we uncover a startling radio industry revelation: 38 of the top 40 most-played country songs weren't even released this year. This leads to a fascinating discussion about why music executives consistently prefer safe, proven sounds over innovation, and how artists like Garth Brooks and Zach Topp initially struggled because they didn't sound like "everything else on the radio."

The conversation shifts to exciting industry developments with Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks preparing a Christmas duet album, Jake Owen returning to old-school country sounds, and rising star McCoy Moore who received life-changing advice from Luke Combs when he was just 16. We also highlight Hardy's darker artistic direction with his aptly-named upcoming album "Country, Country, Country."

Our question of the day—"Who is an artist more people should know about?"—sparks passionate responses from listeners, with multiple nominations for Chapel Heart and several mentions of previous show guests deserving wider recognition. The episode concludes with thought-provoking mailbag questions addressing everything from live album authenticity to AI's growing role in songwriting, where Jay reveals industry secrets about how "live" recordings are often doctored and fixed before release.

Whether you're a dedicated country fan or simply curious about the inner workings of the music industry, this episode offers honest insights into what really happens behind Nashville's curtain. Listen now to join the conversation about authenticity, innovation, and the future of country music.

Tony Scott:

Welcome to The Jay Franze Show, a behind-the-curtain look at the entertainment industry, with insights you can't pay for and stories you've never heard. Now here's your host, Jay Franze, and Tiffany Mason.

Jay Franze:

And we are coming at you live. I am Jay Franze and with me tonight the wane to my garth, my beautiful co-host, Miss Tiffany Mason.

Tiffany Mason:

Totally, totally, totally.

Jay Franze:

If you are new to the show, this is your source for the latest news, reviews and interviews, and if you would like to join in, comment or fire off any questions, please head over to jayfranze. com. All right, my friend. Before we get started, let me tell you about the question of the day.

Tiffany Mason:

The question of the day.

Jay Franze:

The question of the day. Who is an artist Singer band who is an artist that more people should know about?

Tony Scott:

Who is?

Jay Franze:

an artist that more people should know about. Let's go ahead and save that for a little later in the show, and if you would like to have your responses right off here in the show, go ahead and put those in the comment section, and we will do that for you, because we're just good like that. All right, ms Tiffany? I would like to start it off with an article that I saw that I thought was humorous, or that could potentially be humorous.

Jay Franze:

Okay, true to form, I did not read it, so Lord knows what we're getting ourselves into but I like to be as surprised as you when we do these things. So the article I found says eight canceled country celebrities and what they did to earn it. I can't wait. Sounds fun, because I don't believe you can really cancel anybody, but let's go ahead and find out what these eight did.

Tiffany Mason:

Cancel culture.

Jay Franze:

To get canceled. Let's see, we're starting off strong. Who do you think gets canceled first? Nope, you're wrong. Morgan Wallen.

Tiffany Mason:

I was going to say him Dang it, because I don't feel like he really got canceled. No, Uh-uh. No so.

Jay Franze:

I didn't know this happened, but so be it. He was canceled in 2021.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay.

Jay Franze:

For saying the N-word and being caught on his neighbor's ring doorbell.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh no, you can't do that. I get it yeah.

Jay Franze:

All right, do we know who Jimmy Allen is?

Tiffany Mason:

The name does actually sound familiar. Maybe he doesn't sound familiar because he got canceled.

Jay Franze:

He got canceled and we don't know who he is. Jimmy Allen's former manager claimed he sexually and verbally abused her.

Tiffany Mason:

She was a me too.

Jay Franze:

I don't know who he is. The name sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't know who it is. He looks kind of like Prince. I don't know I will give you a hint on the next one okay okay, he is part of a dynasty. That would be a duck dynasty oh phil robertson oh, oh. Well, you know he was cancelled in 2013 for telling GQ that homosexual behavior was sinful that would be, I mean on par with a Christian stance, I suppose, but really the next one.

Jay Franze:

We've discussed here several times in the past the Chicks, dixie Chicks, the Dixie Chicks.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, that was my first guess.

Jay Franze:

The Chicks, the Dixie Chicks, when lead singer Natalie made comments about President Bush. Made comments about President Bush. That was so bad at the time that when you would drive by Sony Records, there would be a stack of their CDs on the sidewalk from people just driving by and throwing them at the record label.

Tiffany Mason:

That's crazy.

Jay Franze:

Not neatly stacked.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, haphazardly thrown in their direction, discarded with disdain.

Jay Franze:

I say that just to imagine how many there would have to be to make a pile that size. Jerry Lee Lewis.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, what did this cat get in trouble for?

Jay Franze:

Oh dear God. I mean, if it's not marrying his 13-year-old cousin, I don't know what it would be. Let's see, he was never canceled in country music. In fact the opposite is true. So why is he on the list?

Tiffany Mason:

Right, they got desperate.

Jay Franze:

Oh, he was canceled in rock and roll.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, mm-hmm yeah.

Jay Franze:

For marrying his 13-year-old cousin. The country community had no problem with it. The rock community said whoa, what are you doing?

Tiffany Mason:

The rock community drew a line in the sand Country was like I mean, whatever, I get it.

Jay Franze:

Rock says 13-year-old. Okay, maybe, but your cousin.

Tiffany Mason:

No.

Jay Franze:

No, I don't know how he got away with it. Me neither. It's crazy. I worked on one of his projects and it was a live recording, and during that live recording he insisted the whole night he wasn't drinking, and towards the end of the night he goes okay, fine, I'm drinking. He was funny all right, this one. It's listed under country. Don't know how, but let's go for it. Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, what would he be canceled for?

Jay Franze:

Similar to Morgan Wallen. He got caught using the N-word.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay Well, that's kind of frowned upon. He called his son's girlfriend the N-word. Okay well, that's kind of frowned upon.

Jay Franze:

He called his son's girlfriend the N-word.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, my goodness.

Jay Franze:

Okay, I did not know. This person got canceled, maren Morris.

Tiffany Mason:

What'd she get canceled for?

Jay Franze:

It says did Maren Morris get canceled or did she just leave? The results are probably the same. Ever since she took on Jason Aldean, she's been missing from the country music conversations.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh brother, what'd she say.

Jay Franze:

Next one. Again, I don't know how this falls under country, but this is the next one and the last one.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay.

Jay Franze:

Miss Paula Deen, what the short version is. That in 2013, she was part of a lawsuit brought on by her former restaurant manager, who alleged racial discrimination and sexual harassment.

Tiffany Mason:

Interesting Little Paula Deen.

Tony Scott:

All right.

Jay Franze:

I don't know if that was as fun as I expected it to be, but you know it's still interesting. I'm not here doing cartwheels or anything.

Tiffany Mason:

I was.

Jay Franze:

I'm not big on canceling I don't feel like you can cancel people, but I understand it, I get it All right. Canceling songs canceling I don't feel like you can cancel people, but I understand it, I get it All right.

Tiffany Mason:

Canceling songs, canceling books, stop canceling, just let people have their ideations.

Jay Franze:

Just makes it more popular, yep. All right, let's move on to the news.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, I know one of our crew members, Amy, is going to be very excited about this first story we're going to share. So Lainey Wilson, Vince Gill, did a tribute performance of Go Rest High on that Mountain by Vince Gill, Of course. She did To honor television creatives who have passed this year. It was a rare country moment at the Emmys, pausing the show, bringing somber, heartfelt energy to the broadcast.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, they made people cry.

Tiffany Mason:

Music can do that. Yeah, evokes a little bit of emotion. Yeah, that's nice.

Jay Franze:

Lainey Wilson. She used to be an impersonator. Hannah Montana impersonator.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh for funny. She should do some bits during her shows, yeah it would be funny. It would be funny. Okay, the next thing I want to share with you is of the 500 most played country radio tracks so far in 2025, tracks so far in 2025, 38 of the top 40 songs were not released in 2025. I think that is so interesting and many reoccurrent or gold classics topping the spin charts. Even the newer hits from Morgan Wallen make the list, but only in small numbers. Radio is sticking with what's already been proven.

Jay Franze:

It's been a big conversation over the past week or two and, matter of fact, zach Topp was just being interviewed and he was talking about how, when he went for his record deal, that none of the major record labels would sign him, and they all said that there's nothing we can do with your music. What they want is somebody who sounds like everything else on the radio, because it's proven.

Jay Franze:

And financially, from a business point of view, that makes sense. But once somebody jumps out of that and does something and it becomes successful, then they all jump on that. So, I remember when it was Faith Hill and Shania Twain and that was the big thing everybody had to have a a hit woman artist on the label where it was mostly men on the labels, and then a woman broke free and then all of a sudden, you had another one and then another one. So now I'm wondering are we going to get more throwback artists?

Jay Franze:

so it'd be interesting to see if what he got turned down for will now become a trend.

Tiffany Mason:

It will be interesting. I think you're right.

Jay Franze:

Well, Zach Topp almost didn't get a deal at all because of it. And somebody, a more independent label, had to take a risk and it paid off and they were talking about on the interview. They were saying wonder what those labels are thinking now that they all passed on you and he said well, it's the same thing that when garth brooks was out. So when garth brooks was out, he did the same thing. He went to every label. He was a demo singer in nashville. He was singing demos on music grow all day long and everybody wanted him because they loved the sound of his voice.

Jay Franze:

But nobody would take the risk on giving him a record deal and he actually moved home. He moved home and gave up. And someone convinced him to come back and give it a second try. And when they did, he became successful.

Tiffany Mason:

You may have heard of some of his music. I think I can remember a tune or two, at least one, right, yeah, okay, well, jake Owen actually has a new album, dreams to dream, and that is coming out november 7th and it strips back his trend chasing and leans into old school country sound co-produced with shooter jennings and I don't know. I was just intrigued by the name shooter jennings, and so I was looking up some interesting facts about him. I'm not really sure. Sometimes these things lead down rabbit trails. And so he was actually born in Nashville to Mr Whalen and his wife in 79, which that's the year I was born. So it makes sense that he's a good dude. But it was kind of cute.

Tiffany Mason:

There's two stories on how he got his nickname shooter. So his mother cited that her husband, waylon jennings love of western culture and country art for inspiring the gun derived moniker shooter. But his father came this is so cute. His father said he came up with the name when, moments after the newborn emerged from his mother's womb shooter, the boy sprayed a nurse before anyone could put their finger on his first diaper. I love my mom says jenning, but I like my dad's version better and I believe it's true he didn't make that stuff up. It made me laugh because we brought Preston home and we got home and Preston was on the changing table and my husband was, I don't know, changing like the fourth diaper or something, and the phone rang. So I started talking to whoever it was and all of a sudden he's like Tiff, tiff, tiff. Preston is just peeing right into his own eye. Nice.

Jay Franze:

That's lovely.

Tiffany Mason:

But we did not nickname him Shooter.

Jay Franze:

I have girls.

Tiffany Mason:

It's a whole different challenge. Lots of nooks and crannies.

Jay Franze:

Did you know that Jake Owen was a golfer? He was actually a competitive golfer before getting into music.

Tiffany Mason:

No.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, he was a golfer and got injured wakeboarding and was unable to be a professional golfer anymore, so he took up songwriting. Oh, my goodness All these people who are professional athletes, who get injured and then say, well, I guess I'll just be a songwriter. I guess.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, just give it a whirl. Yeah, we'll see where it goes.

Jay Franze:

My favorite was Average Joe, which was a folky rock singer back in the 90s and early 2000s. But he was amazing. But he was a football player for the University of Central Florida and got injured and he couldn't leave his apartment. So he picked up his roommate's guitar, taught himself how to play, started writing songs and became one of the most notable songwriters in that genre across the country. Quickly was on every radio show singing songs. He was singing, you know, in venues all around central florida, I mean he was a big deal.

Jay Franze:

He was in the movie saving sarah marshall playing his music in a bar scene.

Tiffany Mason:

Jeepers.

Jay Franze:

I wish I would just accidentally step into a pot of luck. I'm telling you, I don't know what it is about athletes, Something about the hand-eye coordination maybe I don't know.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, well, the next story is that the Field and Stream Music Fest has officially been canceled again for the second year in a row, despite being slated for future major stars like Miranda Lambert, red Green, eric Church and more. Organizers say circumstances beyond their control forced the decision, and refunds for tickets and camping etc. Are being processed now. How much money do you think is being refunded?

Jay Franze:

A lot, I didn't realize it was canceled last year. I like Field and Stream. I think that would have been pretty cool, but no, I did not realize it was canceled last year. I would like some more insight. Please Somebody come on here and tell us what's really going on.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, yeah, that's what I think too. What was beyond your control? If you have those names lined up, I don't know Someone didn't dot an I or cross a T.

Jay Franze:

Somebody had their Cheerios beaten.

Tiffany Mason:

Someone got fired, there you go.

Jay Franze:

Okay, I just realized you haven't been fired yet tonight.

Tiffany Mason:

The button's cold, well, we don't need to use it. Um, we're going to talk about hardy, also to not be confused with john party. So hardy is his own entity and he just dropped a video for bottom land. The song was actually pretty good. It sets up a haunting tone ahead of his upcoming album Country, country, country Country what an original name Sleated for September 26, so not too long from now. The clip and the track dive into darker ground, showing Hardy's not afraid to shake up expectations in country rock. You know the song if I die young, bury me in satin. Okay, he's in a casket and he's got his camel on and it shows his feet at first, but then he's just singing from the casket. So I guess this is the darker side that they're talking about, the haunting darker side. It wasn't very haunting in my opinion. There was some fake steam coming off the pond, but you haunting?

Jay Franze:

in my opinion there was some fake steam coming off the pond, but I mentioned that he was into rock before country and he's got that duality on his album. I like that stuff. But before that he was even writing songs for morgan wallen.

Tiffany Mason:

He wrote songs for blake shelton, so I mean, it's not like he doesn't have talent yeah, I, I guess Jeepers, how cool is that to go from maybe like working on your confidence, like if you have the skill set to write songs and then they go to these major artists, then you're like, wait a minute, I know I've mentioned Justin Wilson to you and I was looking up a singer songwriter festival a different artist and he's going to be there. Singer songwriter festival a different artist and he's going to be there and this guy's voice is like so good that it kills me that he's not like a recording artist maybe that should be part of our question of the day well, it's one of my answers, so it's what got me thinking about that.

Tiffany Mason:

But, yes, it. It does beg the question why some people choose to just say singer-songwriters, and it could be, you know, lack of talent or lack of desire, but I would not mind picking some people's minds or brains who have just stayed in that lane. Well, next is going to be Mr McCoy Moore. Do you know this gentleman?

Jay Franze:

Barely Because I I mean he's new, he's like what 20?

Tiffany Mason:

nothing yeah, he's 24 and it says that he, um, is like taken off. So everybody, hold on to your shorts. Mccoy moore he's going to be the name I'm thinking that we're all going to hear because, um, he actually just got signed to Sony Music Nashville. But I thought it was interesting. In 2018, when he was just 16 years old, he actually met Luke Combs and somehow they had a conversation and Luke Combs gave him some advice you know, just be true to yourself, sing authentically, have fun, that kind of stuff. And then, when he was 19, he moved to Nashville. So I guess I don't know what the average age is, but that seems young to move to a town so big.

Jay Franze:

I've noticed the artists are moving younger and younger to Nashville. We had Josie Sal on the show. She was 13 when she was on the show. She's 14 now and she's playing shows everywhere. I mean, that girl is insane right now and writing amazing songs.

Tiffany Mason:

Can you imagine that much pressure at that age?

Jay Franze:

And she looks like she's having fun. Doesn't look like any pressure in the world to her, but I'm sure there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, also, ignorance is bliss. So you know, at that age maybe you don't realize the gravity of what you're actually doing. You just think like, oh, this is cool.

Jay Franze:

Well, your McCoy there probably got his boost of confidence because he blew up on TikTok before becoming a recording artist.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, okay, okay. Well, later this year he's actually hitting the road with Hardy Coe Wetzel and Stephen Wilson Jr on the Jim Bob World Tour.

Jay Franze:

Wow, Well, that builds some confidence right there, for sure.

Tiffany Mason:

Mm-hmm yeah.

Jay Franze:

Those will be some great mentors.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah right, oh my gosh being in great company. They say you are the sum of the five people you hang out with the most, so three of them.

Jay Franze:

Are hit. Country Party, there you go.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, it'd probably be pretty good. He's part of the country next crop, so early promise, a clear vision, and listeners are beginning to take notice.

Jay Franze:

So keep your eye on Mr Moore there you go.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, now this next one. I have a question for you. Have you heard of this country music and club music, or country club music?

Jay Franze:

There's what I think you're referring to as the mixture of genres, where you're mixing country with a club genre Seems to be a very popular thing going on right now where there's artists in the country world who are using drum beats and stuff instead of real drummers yeah, which drives me insane.

Jay Franze:

I'm not a fan. There's a few people who do it and I like them as artists and I like their music. Like Chase Matthew, I'm not a fan. There's a few people who do it and I like them as artists and I like their music. Like Chase Matthew. I like Chase Matthew a lot. He's a if you haven't heard of him, he's an up and coming country artist. Right now I just got off the road he's getting ready to go on a big tour. He's going to be here this month, I think.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh cool.

Jay Franze:

So he's doing great and he's an amazing artist, but his song that's on the radio right now is using a drum beat versus a real live drummer.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, I thought it was interesting because Hannah is a freshman this year and at school they had spirit days when the week leading up to this big rival game that we had going on and she was like Mom, should I dress as country or club? She was like mom, should I dress as country or club? And I was like, uh, a little bit of tear in the headlight and I said I think she wasn't even mean. And I said, well, I think it's like traditional country versus country, that kind of is mixed. Well, what I said to her was that's mixed with ns, ns, ns, ns, lovely. And she was like, okay, okay, I said like I think shibuzi would be like club country, you know. So I was trying to explain it to her but it was a new idea for me. I guess I didn't know these terms, so I thought maybe that the crew members wouldn't know them.

Jay Franze:

There's a lot of controversy going on about that right now is does that belong in country music.

Jay Franze:

I like when people borrow things from other genres For a while it was very popular to put a drum loop into the country songs, but it was a drummer playing the drum loop and then they would play their part over that drum loop that they just played. So I like that. It was kind of cool. It gave a different vibe to stuff and they were borrowing the idea from pop music, but they were playing it and they were changing it. So now if you're just doing the same exact thing by taking a drum machine or a drum beat that somebody else is using or somebody else has created and you're just building your song around that, or if you have me go yeah.

Jay Franze:

That's going to be our next sample. By the way, I've got a sample that you did the other day. That was off the wall.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh brother, Wait for it. You guys, Jay's working on a new tune.

Jay Franze:

I'm going to start loading up some new buttons.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh gosh you guys jay's working on a new tune. Start loading up some new buttons, oh gosh. Well, the next thing I'm going to tell you about is healing apalachia lecha whatever is actually. Um, they bring awareness to the opioid epidemic um hate mail tiffany at jay franzy. Why? Why am I getting hate mail for that you?

Jay Franze:

said whatever to Appalachia.

Tiffany Mason:

Appalachia.

Jay Franze:

Is it Appalachia?

Tiffany Mason:

or Appalachia.

Jay Franze:

I always say Appalachia, but I don't know.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, appalachia, okay, well, and they?

Jay Franze:

I'm a Yankee living in the South, I can't be expected to pronounce everything correctly.

Tiffany Mason:

At least I have respect for it. Okay, well, whatever, anyway, so I'm kidding, it's going to be September, oh, it's this weekend and it is in Ashland Kentucky, ashland, kentucky, and they have announced Chris Stapleton and Childers Childers, childers, childers, thank you Will be there. It's going to be a good event. Expect roots, powerful voices and a community vibe that honors the Appalachian music rich tradition.

Jay Franze:

It's Kentucky I would like to go. It's a little bit of a hike from my area.

Tiffany Mason:

I wondered how far it is from you.

Jay Franze:

It's probably three to four hours.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh yeah.

Jay Franze:

But I still might do it something.

Tiffany Mason:

See if the wife will let you See if you can get permission.

Jay Franze:

I don't know if I give permission so I get it Okay.

Tony Scott:

new album.

Tiffany Mason:

Obviously the same thing. Well, there's good news that Trisha yearwood and garth brooks they are ready, getting ready for christmas with a duet album what you know, that guy garth brooks that guy, garth brooks, and some guy well, I almost said brooks, garth.

Tiffany Mason:

I'm not really sure why, but my brain had it flipped so I struggled for a minute. But true country tradition meets seasonal spirit. Trisha yearwood's christmas time will feature favorites plus a duet with her longtime partner, garth brooks. She says these songs are personal favorites of hers, bringing warmth as the holidays approach. We'll see what she sings.

Jay Franze:

Do you know that there's a connection, a similarity, between her and Faith Hill? Tell me more when they both moved to town, to Nashville, to try to become successful. Their first gig they both dated Garth Brooks. They both married Garth Brooks. No, they both became a receptionist at a record label. Oh, interesting, smart, good move Become a receptionist at a record label.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, interesting, smart, good move.

Jay Franze:

Become a receptionist at a record label. Get to know the people inside and guess what? You get a record deal Surprise. Mm-hmm Shock, I'm going to go become a receptionist at a record label.

Tiffany Mason:

That's a great idea.

Jay Franze:

It's not going to work the same I'll be the director of first impressions.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, this next guy's name, Jackson Dean. I just freaking love his name. I just think like, oh, I just I think because of James Dean, so the Dean part. But I just love Jackson Dean, I just love his name. He just sounds like a rebel. Yeah, yeah, it sounds tough. Jackson dean, I just love his name. He just sounds like a rebel. Yeah, yeah, it sounds tough. Okay, well, he is um openly applauding his growing fan base, calling them rabid for their passion and dedication for an up-and-coming artist. Nothing hits like fans who ride hard for you.

Jay Franze:

It fuels both his performance and his momentum nothing hits like having a your first song be put into Yellowstone either.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, right, I mean, oh, my gosh doesn't hurt.

Jay Franze:

All right Question of the day who is an artist more people should know about. Who is an artist more people should know about. We're going to start with Sarah with an H, because she came back. All right, sarah with an H says she came back.

Tiffany Mason:

All right, sarah with an H says Chapel Heart.

Jay Franze:

Okay, this is going to cause a lot of research.

Tiffany Mason:

I'm going to write them all down because I want to know about new artists.

Jay Franze:

Amanda, you don't count, amanda, says Lainey Wilson.

Tiffany Mason:

No, come on, People know about her.

Jay Franze:

Chris, you're out too. He's just Tyler Childers, chris out. Sorry, let me see if I can knock anybody else out. Real quick, make our lives easier.

Tony Scott:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

Heather out Ashley McBride. Nope, Nope, Ooh, Josh, you get credit. Josh gets credit because he chose Brian Frazier.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, I'm writing it down.

Jay Franze:

Brian Frazier was a previous guest of the show.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, not one that I got to speak to.

Jay Franze:

Not one that you got to speak to. He's a very nice guy. I'm sure he'd be willing to come back on the show again here to talk about some of his new music. It's been a little while since he's been here, but he is a very nice guy. He's got an influence of 90s rock songs. So his country music has that same kind of vibe to it.

Tiffany Mason:

Love it. That's a good one.

Jay Franze:

Kelly, you're out. She says jelly roll. Come on, jessica. I'm going to go with Jessica because you did not know this artist, chase Matthew.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh yeah, I'm excited about that.

Jay Franze:

Kathy, come on, you're out, kathy's saying Taylor Swift and Bruno.

Tiffany Mason:

Mars Mom.

Jay Franze:

Did I not say this correctly? Who are artists that more people should know?

Tiffany Mason:

It's not like if they've been on the radio, more people should know about them. It's a lot of people know about them because they were already on the radio, but who do we want to put the spotlight?

Jay Franze:

on. We should know more about them, if we know any more about Taylor Swift. I don't know, hannah. Hannah, I'm going to give you credit because you also chose an artist that was previously on the show. This is Hannah, probably your daughter but it's not, she has an H. Sorry, hannah, I do it every week. Hannah says Sherry Rowe. Not only is she a previous guest on the show, but she's coming back on the show because she has a new single out.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, I get to meet her.

Jay Franze:

I'm excited. Ethan you're out, megan you're out. Oh, here's another vote for Chapel.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, I'm going to put mine in there. Morgan Wallen.

Jay Franze:

Okay. Tony says Chapel Heart, Sophia says Chapel Heart, so that's three votes right now. Says Chapel Heart, sophia says Chapel Heart, so that's three votes right now for Chapel Heart.

Tiffany Mason:

If anybody has a connection, we'll interview them.

Jay Franze:

She's listening right now. Call her Laura. You're out, However, previous guests of the show, so I'm going to read it anyway. Laura says William Lee Golden and Danny Stefanetti.

Tiffany Mason:

Mom Ella Langley. It's people we don't know, y'all.

Jay Franze:

I would say Danny. Stefanetti, for sure. William Lee Golden, you know, lead singer of the Oak Ridge Boys. We may have heard of him, golden, you know, lead singer of the Oak Ridge Boys. We may have heard of him, and also William Lee Golden and the Goldens family band. But Danny Stefanetti, she's an up and comer that more people should know about. Obviously, william Lee Golden knows about her.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, he's in the know.

Jay Franze:

Chris, here's one. I like it. Chris says Presley Tennant.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh. We-huh, we're just going to list previous guests.

Jay Franze:

There's a lot of previous guests on the show, but a lot of these people.

Tiffany Mason:

That's good.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, they're known.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

Like the next three. Four are previous guests on the show.

Tony Scott:

Oh.

Jay Franze:

Monica says Cleve Francis.

Tiffany Mason:

Cleve, cleve.

Jay Franze:

Cleve. Now I'm only reading that one. First of all, it's a 90's country artist, but I just finished a project for him.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh.

Jay Franze:

I mean, I literally just finished it. Jeff says Josie Sell.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh.

Jay Franze:

Your mother says Tucker Whitmore.

Tiffany Mason:

Mom, stop, stop, stop. You're just picking anybody off the top charts. Let me just go look at the charts quick.

Jay Franze:

Here's another one for Chapel Heart. A lot of people are liking Chapel Heart. Megan says Chapel Heart. James says Randall King.

Tiffany Mason:

Randall King.

Jay Franze:

Sarah, you're out. She says Ashley Cook.

Tiffany Mason:

She was in our headlines last week.

Jay Franze:

Chris, you're out. He says William Lee, Golden and the Goldens. I guess, to be fair, to give Chris some credit, everybody knows William Lee and the Oak Ridge Boys. It's less known. So eh, that's fair then.

Tiffany Mason:

Fair enough, it's a stretch but we can get there, yeah.

Jay Franze:

So yeah, that's fair, then Fair enough.

Tiffany Mason:

It's a stretch, but we can get there.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, yep, tyler, you're gone.

Tiffany Mason:

Laney Wilson for sure.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, I wonder what she sings.

Tiffany Mason:

I wonder if she's any good I never heard of her before.

Jay Franze:

Oh, no, no, no. Olivia says Caitlin Smith. Ooh, let's see. Isaac says Kyle Fields. Kyle Fields, previous guest of the show. Ah he is definitely a talented dude. He's the one who played with Post Malone.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh yeah cool.

Jay Franze:

okay, post Malone came into the bar. Yeah, I think it was. Winnersone came into the bar yeah. I think it was Winners in Nashville, the bar Winners. There's Winners and there's Losers, and there's two bars next to each other Winners and Losers, and he was playing at Losers.

Tiffany Mason:

Naturally, that's where Post Malone went.

Jay Franze:

And showed up at Losers and stayed there and watched him all night long. Losers and stayed there and watched them all night long. So he was a great guy, so cool, all right. Oh, okay, mackenzie lee previous guest of the show, you get the last name. Red mackenzie lee says me Mackenzie Lee.

Tiffany Mason:

Aww.

Jay Franze:

I will second that Definitely a talented woman. Justin, sorry, I don't know who you are, but I'm going to read your last name anyway Frederick, justin, frederick, 852 Main Street.

Tiffany Mason:

I was going to say spell it out and give us the address.

Jay Franze:

Justin Frederick, because he says me Justin Frederick. Justin Frederick music over at the Gram. If anybody wants to look him up, there you go, justin. Hope you get some peeps. Oh, here's one, we know Maya Project Music.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh yeah.

Jay Franze:

Now, she did not promote herself. She's got to get credit for that. Previous guest on the show did not promote herself. She is promoting Porcupine Tree.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, that's going to be worth something, right there, ooh, brittany says Chad Bushnell Ooh, I was thinking I put that whiskey to work. Oh man, I heard that song Whiskey to Work.

Jay Franze:

I had that song on repeat for a solid week. Chad Bushnell, previous guest of the show, very talented individual. I would highly recommend that you go check out Chad and that song Whiskey to Work is an amazing song. Mm-hmm, I love that song Kathy, come on, I think you're missing. Was it George Strait? He's probably pretty good.

Tiffany Mason:

I wish more people knew about him, though. Yeah.

Jay Franze:

Kathy, I'm just kidding.

Tony Scott:

Please don't hurt me.

Jay Franze:

Oops, it's going. It started moving so fast I couldn't see it.

Tiffany Mason:

Eddie says Cody Jinx oh.

Jay Franze:

Well, he's on the Indy charts, is he? He still there? I don't know if he still is, but still we didn't know who he was just a week or two ago.

Tiffany Mason:

a couple weeks ago. Yeah, amanda, I know amanda, we called her flushy I'm sure she loves you telling everybody that we call her.

Jay Franze:

Flushie, because Bella, who's 15 now, when we met Flushie she was working at Wetzel's Pretzel and she would give my sorry, kathy, kathy's telling me easy. But we met Flushie working at Wetzel's Pretzels and my daughter was like three at the time and we'd get slushies from her.

Tony Scott:

Oh, yeah, and she couldn't pronounce slushies, so she kept asking for flushies, so can we go see Flushie?

Jay Franze:

Anyways Flushie, says Sam Barber.

Tiffany Mason:

That name actually sounds familiar to me.

Jay Franze:

Jason Hale. Jason Hale, previous guest of the show. That's why I'm using his last name. He says Ronnie Pittman. He was also the bass player for Kyle Fields.

Tony Scott:

Oh.

Jay Franze:

Jason Hale was the bass player for Kyle Fields. Oh, jason Hill was the bass player for Kyle Fields. Still is, from time to time, all right. And then James, james, my friend, I love you. Thank you for being here every week. Thank you for constantly telling me you like this portion of the show. He says Leon Bridges.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay.

Jay Franze:

All right, we got any final people coming in here? Oh, yep, we got Faith, says Gina Fritz, gina Fritz also a previous guest of the show. Okay, I'm going to go through this rapid fire. We'll cherry pick.

Tiffany Mason:

Everybody hold on.

Jay Franze:

We're going to cherry pick just people who are guests of the show at this point.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay.

Jay Franze:

Okay, so if you've put in a guest of the show, you're going to get bonus credit right now.

Tiffany Mason:

Whoa, bonus points coming everybody's way.

Jay Franze:

Maddie says Mackenzie Phipps. Gabe says Trey Calloway.

Tiffany Mason:

He's a show favorite.

Jay Franze:

He's been on the show several times now. Katie says Sarah Ames. Ooh, she sings a song called Heart Thing. It's a great song.

Tiffany Mason:

Sarah Ames Heart Thing.

Jay Franze:

She just had a baby, so she's been out of the scene for the past few months.

Tiffany Mason:

I don't know how they get back into it, man.

Jay Franze:

That's my fear.

Tiffany Mason:

Whenever a friend of mine would have a baby, I would always be like so I'll see you in a year. You know, the baby just takes over your brain your life, your house, your car.

Jay Franze:

That's what we were saying with Thomas. Rhett Thomas Rhett See as soon as his wife has that baby. We said she'd leave it Right now. She takes it everywhere, so she'll be leaving it. Logan says Matt Oakley Another great artist. Luke says JD Reynolds. Maya says High Mountain Breezes. Elijah says Huckleberry Road All right, Awesome. Miss Tiffany.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay. Well, I'm very torn, but I think I am going to actually say Stephen Quinn. I will tell you guys about Stephen Quinn when we get to what I did this weekend, but he is starting to shake things up in Nashville and I quite enjoyed his voice. Stephen Quinn is my official pick.

Jay Franze:

All right, fair enough. Jackson just chimed in. Hey whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't leave off John Michael Ferrari.

Tiffany Mason:

Previous guest of the show, one of the more popular episodes of this show too. Oh, wow.

Jay Franze:

Thank you, Jackson Jackson, John Michael Ferrariari last minute submission right the last moment. Oh, how about cersei?

Tiffany Mason:

yes, I think that they should be on there for sure cersei uh, longtime friends, longtime friends of the show.

Jay Franze:

They've been on the show. I would like to have them back on the show for sure. However, super, super talented and they play probably 300 and something shows a year.

Tiffany Mason:

I thought you were going to say 300 and something.

Jay Franze:

instruments no they probably do. I mean, they're very talented people all at one time.

Tiffany Mason:

You should see it. It's amazing.

Jay Franze:

No, there's only two of them, a husband wife. He plays guitar and he plays bass with his feet. She sings and plays drums and plays flutes and plays bass with trigger pads. And when I say with trigger pads I don't mean she hits it and the trigger pad plays a bass line. I mean she's got all the notes laid out on the trigger pad and plays them based on the note.

Jay Franze:

So I mean, they're a talented band and they write commercial songs, I mean, and she's just got a great love to see the brain activity, no, while're playing.

Tiffany Mason:

It's too much for me to imagine their whole brain has to be lit up.

Jay Franze:

All right, my friend. Well, that's what we have for the question of the day. If you would like to submit your question of the day, please head over to jfrenzycom slash question. We are always willing to go with yours over ours because, let's face it, they're probably better anyway.

Tiffany Mason:

All right, you want to talk about the charts. You want to see who's moving and shaking on the charts.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, that's the exact way I wanted to look at it Moving and shaking.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, they're moving like up and down, you know.

Jay Franze:

Whoa, whoa, you're always going to take it too far.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, that was me all right number 10, because we start at 10 jay, we don't start at one. We start at 10 every week.

Jay Franze:

You say that every week. I start the beginning one.

Tiffany Mason:

Well, I'm very excited we have a new person in the number 10 spot debuting, Mr Luke Combs. Back in the saddle.

Jay Franze:

Hold on, wait, wait, no, no, let's try. You know I'm out of them. I know there's a sound in there that would be better, but let's stop the thing here.

Tiffany Mason:

Stop, okay, okay.

Jay Franze:

This is the song I've been telling you about. We keep talking about Backup Plan.

Tiffany Mason:

Thank you, Bailey.

Jay Franze:

This is the other one.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, this is the one.

Jay Franze:

I keep telling you about. I said it's going to be coming. I said we'll make it into our top ten list. We don't need to discuss it until it gets here.

Tiffany Mason:

Guess what? Here it is, it's here.

Jay Franze:

We're discussing. Okay, this is another one of those songs this is, you know, I'm back in it, you know this is baby once he stood up.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay. So, luke, thank you. Okay, I'm excited to check it out. Like a little grit, a little perseverance, a little tenacity.

Jay Franze:

Love it.

Tiffany Mason:

Yep, all right. Well, in spot number nine, moving up from spot 10, is John Party Friday Night. Heartbreaker Did you say Hardy Party. I said party, which I have recently learned is different than Hardy.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, that's all right. Yeah, Friday Night.

Tiffany Mason:

Heartbreaker Friday Night Heartbreaker. I don't know that one either, so I'll have to check it out.

Jay Franze:

Oh mercy, You're falling behind.

Tiffany Mason:

I know, I know I got to be in my car more. You spend a lot of time in your car.

Jay Franze:

I do not. You spend a lot of time in my car.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, okay. In spot number eight from spot number nine, morgan Wallen, I Got Better. I love this song, kathy. Do you know who?

Jay Franze:

Morgan Wallen is we should really know.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, and our dual favorite, jordan Davis, with Bar None, stayed at spot number seven. Her and the Memory One, me and the Bar comma none. Jelly Roll with Heart of Stone did the same thing. He's in spot number six and he was in spot number six last week.

Jay Franze:

Come on, Jelly.

Tiffany Mason:

You could do better than that. He was another one that should be more known. Known, yeah, I feel like if we could get the word out that was kelly kelly's.

Jay Franze:

I'm sorry, kelly, I looked it up just so we can. Just so we can throw it on you. Kelly says jelly roll should be more known. His song save me was really good should be more known.

Tiffany Mason:

His song Save Me was really good. There you go. Well, we've mentioned him a couple times in the show.

Jay Franze:

So hopefully, kelly, he's got a new song. It's called Heart of Stone, six months. You can tell how good that one is too Sorry. Kelly please come back. We're just kidding, you know. We think of you as family. That's why we pick on you.

Tiffany Mason:

Kelly, if I had the you're fired button, I'd fire Jay for you.

Jay Franze:

I would fire myself for it. Here we go, jay, you're fired, there you go. Oh, it's funny, because we talk about, you know, making fun of people. I sent some meme or something, some meme or video talking about Bostonians. I sent it to my wife like, look, if we didn't like you, we wouldn't be making fun of you, we just wouldn't talk to you. So, kelly, being a Bostonian, I really love you. Glad you're here. Thank you, jelly roll.

Tony Scott:

Hmm.

Jay Franze:

Some other people already know who he is.

Tiffany Mason:

Spot number five. I was too excited to talk about Scotty McCreery.

Jay Franze:

I know.

Tiffany Mason:

He is like, I mean, I brought this song up like two months before it hit these charts and now just Hang in tight. He's not going anywhere. Just hang in on, no he's not, he's loving it.

Jay Franze:

He's in the same spot he was last week.

Tiffany Mason:

I know he's hanging on, I want to see some progress.

Jay Franze:

Come on, Scotty. Well, he did make progress. I want you to make it to number one.

Tiffany Mason:

Right, he's slowly climbing there, but it's not going down. He's hanging, he's hanging. Okay, mr Thomas Rhett, though he is finally starting to decline. He's got his fifth child On the way. On the way, jay. It's in there somewhere. He went from spot number one to spot number four, so some other songs beat him out. Let's see who it was.

Tony Scott:

Guess who it was Jay Good old Russ.

Tiffany Mason:

Good old Russ Going from spot number four to spot number three with Happened to Me. I am Dr Seuss, I am a poet and do not know it. Spot number two is Shaboosie with Good News.

Jay Franze:

That is good news he isn't old either.

Tiffany Mason:

No, no, he's hanging tough at spot number two, but you know who did move up, jay.

Jay Franze:

Hmm, who could that be? Someone who doesn't need a backup plan?

Tiffany Mason:

Yes, yes, this guy does not need a backup plan. He went from spot number three to spot number one. Bailey Zimmerman backup plan. A round of applause for Mr Bailey.

Jay Franze:

Congratulations, Bailey.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, well, let's go to the Indie Charts now. Indie Charts.

Jay Franze:

Starting at number one.

Tiffany Mason:

No spot, number 10. Okay Is Single of the Year by Maddie True. Yes, great song.

Jay Franze:

And if anybody looks that up, maddie, true, yes, great song.

Tiffany Mason:

And if anybody looks that up, Maddie True is not spelled traditionally M-A-D-D-Y-E. Last name True T-R-E -W. That sucks, Because she can never call the doctor's office and be like it's Maddie True.

Jay Franze:

She has to spell that out every single time I'm wondering if it's her record label, true blue music oh, look at that, you are on to something there. You're so observant, jay she's not just an artist. She owns her own label.

Tiffany Mason:

Pretty cool.

Jay Franze:

You got to have talent to do both those things. Those are two full-time jobs for sure.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah Well, something I learned in one of my podcasts is that people in leadership can be more successful because they have a team of people to delegate all the tasks to.

Jay Franze:

True statement yeah, she maybe is doing a lot of delegating.

Tiffany Mason:

True statement yeah, she maybe is doing a lot of delegating.

Jay Franze:

I need another team.

Tiffany Mason:

I have no team anymore, all right. Well, spot number nine goes to Country Boy by Randy Cobb, and he was in spot 10, so he's bumping up and we've got. You Were there by Thompson Square, what number are they Forget your rhyme?

Jay Franze:

What number?

Tiffany Mason:

are they? Thank you. I impressed myself, and then I was like they must have impressed themselves. Anyways, it's Jay's favorite number, number eight.

Jay Franze:

We have spot number ocho, thank you, oh, wait, wait, wait, go ahead, tell me seven, Tell me seven.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, okay, okay. So spot number seven from spot number six, they're in seven this week, baptized in it by the Haygoods, the.

Jay Franze:

Haygoods.

Tiffany Mason:

You just wanted to say it. I just want to say it, that's all, all right, you just wanted to say it, that's all alright if you want to hear the song. It's on the playlist oh snap jfrancycom countdown alright, if you want to hear the song number six. That was number five. It is turn the night on by chris kizza kizia, I don't know if that's right, it's just what the computer keeps telling us.

Jay Franze:

It is Turn the Night On by Chris Kizia, kizia, kizia, that's what I said. Kizia, I don't know if that's right. It's just what the computer keeps telling us.

Tiffany Mason:

I thought I was going to get it right too, but I messed up on the second I Kizia Spot. Number five is I Don't Know how to Say Goodbye Bang Bang, boom Boom. We listened to this song last week after the episode, after we were done recording, and I liked it. And, jay, you said it had a very dwight yokum sound to it, and it does, and it is by dwight yokum and post malone has a very dwight yokum sound to it.

Tiffany Mason:

It's by dwight yokum yeah, well, yes, well, we weren't sure you were saying like it would. Yeah, if you hear, it just sounds like it's from the day. Yeah, from his day it really does.

Jay Franze:

All right, kathy, you ready for me?

Tiffany Mason:

hanging out, hanging out in spot four another week hide and go cheat by by Eric Lee Bedingfield. Is that? Is it Natasha? Is it Natasha's husband Nice?

Jay Franze:

I get it.

Tiffany Mason:

You see what I did there.

Jay Franze:

I do, I see that Go to the next one. I want to say something about it. Go quick.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, okay, okay. Spot number three, holding Steady for Another Week is read by Jet Juergensmeyer Juergensmeyer.

Jay Franze:

Juergensmeyer, I like saying it, juergensmeyer, I know you do.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, it's fun Okay.

Jay Franze:

Spot number two Oop, oop, she loves my country.

Tiffany Mason:

She loves my country. By Louis Bryce Louis Louis Louis Bryce Louis Louis.

Jay Franze:

Louis Bryce.

Tiffany Mason:

Louis, not Lee.

Jay Franze:

Is that Lee's brother?

Tiffany Mason:

I think so. I mean same spelling, so probably Okay, in spot number one she finally made it Coming from. Spot number two is Ashley Ryan with my Crazy.

Jay Franze:

Louis Bryce is Lee Bryce's brother.

Tiffany Mason:

It is Mm-hmm. Oh my gosh, I knew Lee.

Jay Franze:

Bryce has a brother. I just didn't realize that it was Lewis, but yes, Well, he's on the Pump House Records. There you go. Lee can't help a brother out.

Tiffany Mason:

No, no, lee Bryce performed here last Saturday, on the 13th.

Jay Franze:

He's a talented dude, Worked with him quite a while. He is definitely he's a talented dude. Worked with him quite a while. He is definitely talented. He's a similar story to Garth Brooks. He came to town, he was a songwriter and he was singing demos for everybody in town. People loved his voice but nobody wanted to give him a chance. They finally gave him a chance. Curb Records gave him a chance and they said Look, we're going to give you one chance to get out there and make this happen, and it almost didn't. All right, we have received some mail.

Jay Franze:

You've got mail and I have been criticized for not reading it on the show.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, so they're like. I wrote you and you did not say anything on the show. Oh so they're like. I wrote you and you did not say anything on the show, Correct?

Jay Franze:

Because on the website it clearly says may be read on the show it doesn't say will be.

Tiffany Mason:

It says maybe they got their hubs up high. Anyways, everyone wants their one second of fame.

Jay Franze:

I'm going to go ahead and read some of these. If you would like to have your comments not read on the show, please feel free to go to the website. Fill out the form and I won't read yours either. Shadefrenzycom slash mailbag. All right, derek. Derek says could you bring more behind the scenes stories about touring life? Those are always the most fun to me.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh well, maybe Billy Joe could come on and once the show gets rolling she could talk about a couple of those.

Jay Franze:

That is a very good point. I personally don't have too many touring stories. I've spent the majority of my career inside the studio, not on the road, but I have had an opportunity or two, three, four maybe, to go on the road with a few artists. So I do have some stories, but I will do my best with some of those. All right, vanessa, thank you for writing in. I appreciate you. I'm going to go ahead and read yours now.

Jay Franze:

On the show live. She says George Strait should have won every CMA Entertainer of the Year, not just a few.

Tiffany Mason:

Oh, just a clean sweep.

Jay Franze:

Just a clean sweep. I don't know. I've never seen him perform live. I know he's one of the best, but I get the impression there's not a lot of movement there. I don't think he's like Garth Brooks.

Tiffany Mason:

I mean, I do know that he did a lot of hip movement.

Jay Franze:

Whoa. Why is it always going to go back to that with you? Everything? Sorry, vanessa, I know the women were engaged all right, we said he's the most important man in country music. Our opinion for sure. Not the articles, but our opinion, him and garth brooks yeah, if we're gonna say best entertainer. I would probably go with garth brooks. I mean that man was swinging from cables, oh yeah, no, I would agree with yes, I mean he's definitely got the most number one hits and he's just a beast.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

Thank you, bob Bullock, engineering all those records that I did not get to participate in Hunter. I'm sorry. Sorry, another comment come in and distract me. I'm like squirrel.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

Hunter says the sound quality of your show is killer. You can tell there's a pro behind the production. Aw Thank you Give all the credit to Tiffany.

Tiffany Mason:

No.

Jay Franze:

Jake, why don't they release more live albums anymore? Some of the best music is raw performances.

Tiffany Mason:

That's true.

Jay Franze:

Yep.

Tiffany Mason:

Somehow the energy from the audience does come through. Yeah, Well.

Jay Franze:

I hate to say this and I probably shouldn't say it, but a lot of when I say a lot, probably all of the live recordings that you hear have been doctored and fixed and they're not. They're not 100% live. When you hear the record, right, you know they go back, they replace things, they even tune vocals. I mean they, they fix things on those live records. I know because I was the one hired to do it. So, yes, those records they do get altered, but there are people who are just awesome and don't need to be fixed.

Jay Franze:

That's what we should be fighting for.

Tiffany Mason:

They should have to claim it. How impressed would you be to be like huh, not auto-tuned, interesting, right, like it would be a big bragging point.

Jay Franze:

I mean, I would say, lean on rock music for that. But even rock music these days they're starting to tune things. Everybody wants to be perfect. Music's not supposed to be perfect. Olivia, oh Olivia, thank you very much. Your question of the day. Segments are my favorites.

Tiffany Mason:

I always look forward to hearing what other people have to say Makes sense.

Jay Franze:

Thank you, Ethan. Ethan says do you think AI will replace humans when it comes to songwriting? It's a scary thought, but I'm curious to hear your take writing.

Tiffany Mason:

It's a scary thought, but I'm curious to hear your take.

Jay Franze:

I do think AI is playing more of a role in songwriting now than people think it is.

Tiffany Mason:

Yes, I think.

Jay Franze:

AI is playing a bigger role in our life than people think it is. Yeah, I think people are not aware of how much creative people are relying on AI these days, because it makes things so much easier If you think about the role of songwriters who sit in a room together.

Jay Franze:

They sit in this tiny little room and they sit there and the first thing they say to each other is all right, you got any ideas? No, you got any ideas. No, all right. So they try to come up with something. So for them to be able to turn to AI and say give me 10, you know song ideas, and it'll come up with song titles. And that might trigger them to say, ooh, you know what I like this, let's change it to this and let's go with this.

Jay Franze:

And next thing, you know that sparked their creativity and now they're off writing a song and hopefully that's as far as it goes, right. But no, now you get some people saying, hey, you know what? Just go ahead and write the verse for me. Or you know what? I've written the verse in the chorus, but I'm having a hard time coming up with the bridge. And then, next thing, you know they're using AI to do that, and I don't know if they're using it 100%. I'm sure some people are but they're doing it and they're starting to rely on more. So do I think it's going to happen?

Jay Franze:

yep, absolutely there are some songs that are not only 100 ai written right now, but they're 100 ai performed and they're doing well, so they're racking up plays on spotify, yeah, so if you really want to hear some of this stuff, just go google some ai songs and look them up on spot Spotify and you'll see they have hundreds of thousands of plays.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

I can't imagine there's that many people curious. I think they just think those songs are good.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

And I think it's going to be like anything else, like other tools that we've come across throughout time, like drum machines or things like that. We always think they're going to take over. There'll be no use for a drummer ever again. But then we get sick of it and then we start hiring drummers again.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

So I think what's going to happen is AI will probably take a big place in writing, in probably even recording music, even engineering music. There's AI mastering services out there, so I mean you can have your songs mastered in 30 seconds using AI. It's insane.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

But eventually people will get sick of it and it'll start going back. That's my take. You asked for it, you got it. Mark D Mark are you related to Frank. I need to know you wrote in.

Tiffany Mason:

Please, for the love of.

Jay Franze:

God, mark answer him. He says country and rock collaborations are way better than country and pop. Mark. I agree with you 100%, not even a question of my mind, I agree with that 100, 100%. Not even a question of my mind. I agree with that 100%.

Tiffany Mason:

Unanimous agreement.

Jay Franze:

Absolutely prefer the country and rock collabs over the country and pop ones.

Tiffany Mason:

Yep, I cannot argue with you on this one, jay. I just want to, but I can't.

Jay Franze:

Yeah, I don't blame you for wanting to Rick. Rick says Morgan Wallen's new album is overrated.

Tiffany Mason:

Okay, I mean, I don't know if you've heard the songs. There's 37 songs and about 31 of them are amazing.

Jay Franze:

He says it's solid but not groundbreaking.

Tiffany Mason:

I don't know that 20 Cigarettes song. It's Got Me.

Tony Scott:

Huh, and that I Got Better it's.

Tiffany Mason:

Got Me Huh and that I Got Better. Since you Got Gone what I don't know.

Jay Franze:

You know what I like? Morgan Wallen. I like his music.

Tiffany Mason:

Mm-hmm.

Jay Franze:

But I can see where Rick is coming from. If you compare it to music of the past, does it hold up? Is it as good as some of the other stuff?

Tiffany Mason:

I mean If you really pay attention to some of the lyrics, there are some that are a little cheesy.

Jay Franze:

Are there.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, a couple songs, but that 20 Cigarettes song, that one is solid, it's a solid song.

Jay Franze:

Kyle says I just saw Jelly Roll live Best concert I've been to in years. The man knows how to connect with a crowd.

Tiffany Mason:

All right, Jelly Roll.

Jay Franze:

Jelly Roll just got some credit for defusing a situation over the recent political events where people started arguing and he did not argue back. He didn't tell people to stop, he didn't tell people what to do or how to act, he just started singing. I forget which song it was God Bless America, or one of those songs he just started singing it for himself to put himself at peace, and the whole crowd just started singing along and diffused the entire situation that's awesome so good for him.

Jay Franze:

Megan says why do country stations play the same 10 songs over and over and over again? Why? Because that's what they're there to do. They're there to make sure they can sell advertising. It is 100%. Don't make any mistake about it when you're listening to a radio station. The purpose of the radio station is to sell advertising. The way they do that is by playing you the top 10 songs over and over and over again, Because there's no one person who typically listens to the radio all day long.

Jay Franze:

They just tune in right now tune in, tune out, right. So every time they tune in, you're playing a hit song.

Tiffany Mason:

They're going to come back when it's time I was listening to a classic rock station the other day. I don't know what song came on great song and I was just. You know, the windows were down. I was really enjoying myself. I'm like god, I wonder how many other people are listening the same radio station. You know like I'm on the road with like a million people and I'm just thinking like, are you listening to this same song? Are you listening to the same song?

Jay Franze:

you used to be. You used to be able to drive around the road. You roll down the windows and you hear the same song. That doesn't happen anymore. There's too many ways to play music, too many ways to hear other things while you're driving, like podcasts or talk shows or books on tape, whatever it is. So those days Well they're not on tape.

Tiffany Mason:

If they're, I mean unless you have a cassette player. Come on, we are old people.

Jay Franze:

Speak for yourself, my friend.

Tiffany Mason:

Books on 8-track. That is not.

Jay Franze:

Oh, I'm going to end. I'm going to pick one more, just because I'm having fun with this. I like it. Please submit yours. Tina says Luke Combs is the modern-day Garth Brooks, and people just don't want to admit it.

Tiffany Mason:

Luke Combs is the? I don't know.

Jay Franze:

I think Luke Holmes has the energy and enthusiasm of a Garth Brooks. I think he's got powerful songs. I like his rockish edge to his songs. But, I on this show have said in the past that I think Trey Calloway is the modern day.

Tiffany Mason:

Garth Brooks, I was just going to say Yep.

Jay Franze:

Sound wise for sure.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

I don't know, he might even have some of the same corniness that Garth Brooks has. But I think Garth Brooks is a little corny, but man, he's a rocker and he loves to put on a show, like I said, swinging from wires and smashing guitars.

Tiffany Mason:

Those are great memories.

Jay Franze:

So, I think Trey Calloway sounds an awful lot like Garth Brooks writes those style of songs.

Tiffany Mason:

Yes.

Jay Franze:

I need to go see a show and see if he sell out an arena and swing from wires, and we'll see what we get going on there.

Tiffany Mason:

I mean, I wouldn't put it past him, no.

Jay Franze:

I don't know, it's my two cents. All right, if you would like to have your comments right off on the show. It's jfrenzycom slash mailbag. I keep saying that. Right, I should probably check it, slash.

Tony Scott:

Where is it right there?

Jay Franze:

Mailbag Yep jfrenzycom mailbag. I try to make it easy and then when sometimes it just seems so stupidly easy yes jfrenzycom mailbag. You can go ahead and submit your comments whatever and make fun of us. Who cares? I'll read those too, don't think I won't you tell us we're whack?

Tiffany Mason:

don't put it past us. I have no problem reading this stuff, or you know what you could do.

Jay Franze:

Just go to jfrenzy. I'll read those too. Don't think I won't. You tell us we're whacked.

Tiffany Mason:

Don't put it past us.

Jay Franze:

I have no problem reading this stuff, or you know what you could do. Just go to jfrenzycom. It's all in the menu Click away. All these things are in the menu, including the countdown. You can listen to the whole countdown.

Tiffany Mason:

What do you have going on this week? Well, I would like to tell the story of the boot scoot in Bourbon.

Jay Franze:

Story time.

Tiffany Mason:

It's story time.

Jay Franze:

Crisscross applesauce.

Tiffany Mason:

So I told you guys last weekend that I was going to go and I was going to go with a friend. I was really excited. She got really sick and I was like oh hey, I have another friend that could buy your ticket from you, can she buy your ticket? And she was like oh hey, I have another friend that could buy your ticket from you, can she buy your ticket. And she's like oh yeah, I never bought a ticket and I was like wait, what?

Jay Franze:

I wasn't really sick.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah. So I had a ticket to go to this show and it's like all over my Facebook and I know two networking groups and they had their ladies going to it and I was like I really want to go and it's supposed to be like a show like a little bit Vegas-y-ish, you know, show lights flashing little, barely little pyrotechnics, tectonics pyrotechnics.

Tiffany Mason:

That's what I said pyrotechnics yeah, it was just the accent and yeah, it's the accent, so I was really looking forward to it. So I get there. I'm asking my husband. I'm like, do you want to try to get a ticket? It's sold out. I'm like, oh my gosh, am I really going to go to this thing by myself? And I was like, well, and I kept thinking about my friend Jay, and I was like Jay would go, jay would go, jay would go, jay would go, jay would go, and my husband used to go to movies by himself and he'd go golfing by himself and I'm like, okay, sean would go, sean would go especially golfing.

Tiffany Mason:

He's joined other people, he. I think he would just do 18 by himself, yeah.

Jay Franze:

I would. Yeah, I'll just join other groups. Yep, hey, I'm playing with you yeah, yeah.

Tiffany Mason:

So I was like okay, I can do this, I can do this, and I hate going to things by myself. So I walk in and I try to even get there late, which is like 15 minutes late, because that's like that way people will be there. Because I have a tendency of being I don't know like on time or whatever, and then being the first one there, and then when I'm not meeting anybody, that's even more awkward. So I get the little program and I'm walking around it's not that big of a venue and I'm like, okay, what I'm gonna do, there's like this uh, you know, build your own cowboy hat, little fender. So I go down there and I look at the hats and the ribbons?

Tiffany Mason:

I did not. I did not. And so I looked at the hats and I looked at the ribbons and the little gemstones and all these things that they can do to the hat. Okay, I was like, well, that took three minutes. So I was like what am I going to do now? So I go up, I get something to eat, walk over this table there's just a little space left on this table and I'm like, would I be able to just eat my meal really quick, and then, you know, you can do whatever you want with your company. And this lady's like, yeah, sure, so I start eating, you know, and I'm trying to just like keep to myself. And she said something to me and I was like I have a podcast about networking, right, the link up lounge. So I'm like I should just try to network.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah, so I'm like I should just try to make conversation so you were swinging at this event I was not swinging, I was networking oh, networking, is that what we call it?

Tiffany Mason:

yes, she had this purple tinsel in her hair and I was like, well, I kept wanting to put tinsel in my hair. So I was like, let me strike up a conversation with her. So I'm talking to her and her boyfriend comes over. He's like hi, I'm jim Ray, what's your name? And I was like, oh, I'm Tiffany. And so we're talking and come to find out they are closely related to the main performer of the night. I'm like wait, what? So I'm looking around, still, like, as we're talking, I'm trying to like you know, okay, where are my any familiar faces? I still don't see anybody. And I'm like, oh, dear lord, what I'm gonna do. And so I told them the story, what had happened, and they were like oh my gosh, you're gonna sit with us. And I thought, oh, that was nice, but I'm not gonna burden them, you know, with trying to take me under their wing for the night. But I still don't see anybody. And they are like insist, insistent. They're like come sit with us, come sit with us, you can come to the family section. I'm like, well, this is kind of cool. So I'm like, yeah, okay, cool. So go sit with them.

Tiffany Mason:

They introduced themselves as this guy's bar parents. So this was Stephen Quinn, the one that I had mentioned earlier in the show, and his voice was phenomenal. They were playing all songs from the 90s and a couple of garth brooks songs came up so good. The show itself was like high energy, great costumes, all the voices were on point. They had a fiddle player there and she was so good and yes, they did.

Tiffany Mason:

Devil went down to georgia and the thing was like it was a perfect night. So it went from me walking in and being like, oh dear Lord, what the heck am I doing right now? And then it turned into like so much fun. Afterwards he changes out of his costumes or whatever. He comes over, we take a couple of pictures and they're doing line dancing. So we go over and we do some line dancing and then, like we're going to do a family photo. No, tiffany, you got to be in it. I'm like but you just, I'm like I'll take the picture, I'll take the picture. And they're like no, you got to be in the picture. It was so awesome. Met great friends. I will be seeing them at any performance that Steven has in the area because he's that good. I would travel to see him. Steven has in the area. Because he's that good, I would travel to see him. And yeah, I just can't say enough. It just turned into a fabulous night. So no peeps of my own, but I borrowed some peeps and it worked out.

Jay Franze:

You'll see him again at Thanksgiving.

Tiffany Mason:

That's right. That's right. Family dinner table Nice. Okay. What do you have going on? Did you do anything cool or you got something cool coming up?

Jay Franze:

So what I'm going to do this weekend is try to go and check out some music. So I'm going to go to a place called the Live Action Bar. I mention this because it used to be Tipsy Cow, tipsy.

Jay Franze:

Cow was an event here or a a venue here in kentucky that has live music, and I've gone to see people like avery glenn crabtree, who previous guests of the show amazing, amazing artist, just amazing. Not a recording artist, he plays live. He I don't know if he has any intent on recording music, but he's a live musician who's just amazing. When I say good voice, good charisma, great guitar player, he's very good. So I've gone to see him play there a couple times. I've actually seen Jason Hale play there a couple times. So I think Jason Hale even played with Avery Glenn Crabtree as his bass player on a few shows. So it's a tight-knit community of musicians here, just like it is in Nashville. So you see a lot of the same people, a lot.

Tony Scott:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

Once you become known as being a great bass player. In Jason's case, a lot of other people want you to play bass for them, and when Jason's not on the road touring, he's out with Jake Worthington right now. When he's not out on the road touring, he comes and plays with Avery or plays with Kyle Fields or whoever else.

Tiffany Mason:

Yeah.

Jay Franze:

So it's good times. Anyways, instead of going to Laurie's Roadhouse this weekend, I thought I would go to the live action bar. Now, the reason why I'm so excited about this is because I really liked the Tipsy Cow Tipsy.

Tony Scott:

Cow is really good.

Jay Franze:

It's a honky-tonk venue. Live music was great, but it closed. I didn't realize. They rebranded and reopened. Oh so they rebranded same owner as the live action bar, so now I'm going to go back and check it out. Sweet, that is my plan for the weekend.

Tiffany Mason:

Wow Fun.

Jay Franze:

Nice. What's that? I got the network in my ear. They're telling me we need to wind this down. So let's go ahead and land on the plane as you say, or no, you say, crash the plane.

Tiffany Mason:

Crash it. We're going to crash it All and the plane as you say, or no, you say, crash the plane.

Jay Franze:

Crash it. We're going to crash it, all right, folks. Well, we have done it. We have reached the top of the hour. What's the hour yet? Top of number 16?.

Tony Scott:

Top of hour number two.

Jay Franze:

Which does mean we have reached the end of the show. If you've enjoyed the show, please tell a friend. And if you have not Miss Tiffany, how many friends should they tell?

Tiffany Mason:

Tell two, tell five, make a post, let everybody know.
